The start of 2024 was a somber one for royal fans. King Charles revealed his cancer diagnosis to the world in February.
King Charles Has Been Deemed Healthy Enough For Travel In Autumn
He had been in the hospital for treatment for an enlarged prostate, and incidentally, the doctors discovered he had the disease.
Charles was upfront about his prostate issues but kept a tight lid on what type of cancer he was suffering from. He took time away from his royal duties and public engagements to undergo treatment.
In an optimistic turn of events, King Charles has now been deemed healthy enough to travel to Australia and Samoa in the fall.
Since we heard about his diagnosis, Buckingham Palace has promised us regular updates on the King’s health, but that only applies to significant developments.
The King’s goal is to reach out to as many people affected by cancer as possible. The first thing Charles did when he resumed his royal duties was visit a cancer treatment center in London.
He went to the University College Hospital Macmillan Cancer Centre to emphasize the importance of early diagnosis and focus his attention on innovative research that took place at the hospital.
Charles has patronized the treatment center for almost thirty years. He wants to raise awareness and have meaningful conversations about his devastating diagnosis.
He also visited some of the patients and spent time talking with them. The King’s first public engagement came as he was announced as the new patron of Cancer Research UK.
His Majesty had some initial concerns about his treatment. He wanted to know what side effects to expect.
Charles Follows His Mother’s Example, “Keep Calm And Carry On”
Fortunately, Charles hasn’t experienced hair loss, which he had feared. Changes in his schedule had to be made to help him adjust.
He has reduced his public outings. King Charles also must force himself to rest when he needs to, know his limitations, and safeguard himself from infection.
Interestingly, he was told to minimize contact with Prince Harry to protect himself from infection. One has to wonder if another reason is due to the stress factor involved with his interaction with Harry and the drama that seems to follow the Duke wherever he goes.
The “keep calm and carry on” manner in which he’s handled his cancer is admirable. He takes after Queen Elizabeth in that respect. He receives support from his wife, Camilla, his son, Prince William, and Kate Middleton.
The Princess of Wales also announced her cancer diagnosis in a moving video this past March. The King was very proud of his daughter-in-law.
The outpouring of love and support Charles received from the public when he disclosed his prostate issues and the awareness that was raised prompted him to reveal his cancer diagnosis.
His decision to postpone his royal duties was a precaution since his immune system was compromised. His cancer treatment prevented him from riding his horse, Noble, during Trooping the Color. Princess Anne rode him instead. Other than that, things are looking up.
When asked for an update on the monarch, a source close to Charles responded, “The sun wasn’t shining in February, but it’s shining now.”
