King Charles returned to his royal duties today, visiting the University College Hospital Macmillan Cancer Center in London.
The Function of the Visit Was To Raise Awareness
The monarch, who was diagnosed with cancer in February 2024, took the time to chat with those who were receiving chemotherapy for their illness. King Charles had a “corrective procedure” for an enlarged prostate, and subsequent tests discovered he had an undisclosed form of cancer.
The King and Camilla met with doctors and patients to help raise awareness of the importance of early diagnosis and treatment. The goal is to urge people to see early checks.
He also shared that it was a “bit of a shock” to find out he had the disease, but he and his doctors remain optimistic that he will recover and resume his normal activities.
The King empathized with a cancer patient and said that he understood what she was going through, as he had to have his treatment that afternoon as well.
Charles also listened to several cancer stories during his visit. One particularly touching one was 11-year-old Ellis Edwards, currently receiving radiotherapy and gifted three books by Camilla and some yummy chocolate.
Ellis was diagnosed with cancer in March 2019, with a rare childhood cancer. The cancer caused a tumor that crushed his left lung. The King and Camilla were glad to be able to help and make him feel better.
Charles appeared relaxed and smiling, as this was his first big public appearance since the reveal of his diagnosis. He has become Cancer Research UK’s new patron and gained valuable insight into the latest research and technology.
Everybody Was Happy To Meet King Charles
Charles cheered up the patients with his outrageous dinosaur tie, which is a gift from Prince Louis. He was last seen wearing it when he attended church at Sandringham in January of this year.
The tie may signify that he is ready to return to his royal duties and his good sense of humor, which helps in any situation.
As the King and Camilla moved through the hospital, their royal fans often stopped them. They asked the nurses questions about the treatments and methods used.
This particular hospital wasn’t chosen for the King to visit because it’s associated with the type of cancer he has. Still, it offers facilities for the diagnosis and treatment of a plethora of different cancers. The wide variety they treat is unprecedented. The cancer center also provides steady support for the patients and their loved ones.
The King’s return to public life also highlights the fact that people who have cancer and may be receiving treatment or in recovery can still work and be productive.
Charles was looking well, and he was basically able to resume his regular routine. He can return as long as his doctors are briefed and approved.
The hospital’s chief executive, David Probert, said the King was “full of great energy.” Probert exclaimed,
“We didn’t rehearse our staff to clap and cheer. Everybody was happy and keen to meet the King and Queen. You could tell by the smiles and enthusiastic comments that they were talking to someone who’s been through a difficult time himself.”
