Prince William thanked the UK for their love and support amid King Charles’s cancer diagnosis. He spoke publicly about it for the first time at an air ambulance charity gala where Hollywood actor Tom Cruise was in the audience.

Prince William is Expected to Take On Some of King Charles’s Royal Duties

It was a hectic day for William, who has been taking over some of the King’s engagements until he feels better and ready to return to work.

Earlier today, William performed an investiture service at Windsor Castle. Prince William is expected to take on more royal duties. However, there are no preparations for the Prince to appoint Counsellors of the State.

His Majesty is recuperating at Sandringham after his cancer treatment. William took a night away from helping his wife, Princess Catherine, who has been recovering from abdominal surgery, and taking care of his children, Prince George, Prince Louis, and Princess Charlotte.

The gala banquet was to raise capital for London’s Air Ambulance Charity’s Up Against Time initiative, which is seeking to replace the helicopter squadron by the fall.

As he entered the gala, William said he “really appreciates everyone’s kindness.” The host for the evening took the stage and gave the King best wishes.

In his speech, the Prince of Wales graciously thanked everyone and said,

“I’d like to take this opportunity to say thank you, also for the kind messages of support for Catherine and my father, especially in recent days. It means a great deal to all of us.”

William tried to make everyone feel comfortable by making a joke.

“It’s fair to say the past few weeks have had a rather medical focus. So I thought I’d come to an air ambulance function to get away from it all!”

The Prince Kept His Speech Lighthearted

The Prince kept up with his lighthearted manner by addressing Tom Cruise, who was there to give support. He asked that Tom not make use of either of the new choppers for Mission Impossible. Cruise, after all,

“seems to have a different take on normal wear and tear than the rest of us.”

The audience clapped and altogether said, “Hear, hear,” as William sat back down in his seat. Everyone remained positive, gave the heir to the throne words of encouragement, and said they would pray for his father.

After the speech, William appeared chummy with Top Gun star Tom Cruise. The two of them seemed to hit it off.

Tom Cruise has been supporting the royal family for many years. He attended Princess Diana’s memorial service in 1997. He also had a long-standing friendship with Queen Elizabeth, who flew out to Windsor Castle to have lunch with the Queen just a few months before her death in September 2022.

The Queen personally gave him a tour of Windsor Castle. Tom hasn’t forgotten her kindness and is still supporting the royals today. He has significant affection for them.

After the gala, William returned home to care for his family. He was anxious to see how Kate was feeling. William will likely be taking on more royal duties and engagements in his father’s name during this time.

Fortunately, Willam is keeping a good attitude about everything under the circumstances.
