Kate Middleton takes part at Wimbledon, which is a time-honored tradition for the royal family, and it has been since King George V and Queen Mary attended the event in 1907 before they took the throne.
Kate Is a Patron of The All-England Lawn Tennis and Croquet Club
In 1910, George V was asked to take on the role of president of the All-England Club and present trophies to the winners. The royals still follow the tradition today.
Kate Middleton, patron of the All-England Lawn Tennis and Croquet Club, has traditionally presented trophies to the Wimbledon championship winners for the past eight years.
Royal fans are clamoring to determine whether their beloved Princess of Wales will make it to this year’s competition. There is hope, considering she recently felt well enough to appear at Trooping of the Color.
All-England Club Chair Debbie Jevans is willing to accommodate Kate as much as possible. They are even delaying finding a replacement for her.
Typically, Princess Catherine attends several matches during the tournament. Palace statements have concluded that Kate, while not ready to return to work full-time, wants to try to attend a few royal events during this busy summer season.
Over the years, Kate has enjoyed attending the competitions with her husband, Prince William, and her three children, Princes George and Louis and Princess Charlotte.
She has also presented trophies to tennis stars like Novak Djokovic and Elena Rybakina. For most, Kate’s presence at the match is part of the appeal.
Kate, a skilled tennis player, has even participated in the event. She wasn’t the first. In 1926, King George V, then Duke of York, famously participated in the tournament and lost to Sir Louis Greig.
On Queen Elizabeth’s 90th Birthday, She Had Kate Take Over Her Role
Queen Elizabeth was a patron of the All-England Club from 1952 to 2016. On her 90th birthday, she gave Kate her blessing to take over the role.
In addition to handing out the pretty prizes, Princess Catherine has a charitable role in the organization. She visits local initiatives and sports programs and helps keep the event high-profile with her enduring love of the sport.
Kate Middleton is also praised for her fashionable outfits while in the Royal Box. Her enthusiasm is palpable. The Royal Box holds the most prestigious and sought-after seats at the event. It is where Princess Diana first brought her son, William, in 1991.
When sitting courtside, the royals take memorable photos that circulate and drive interest to the event. Catherine adores tennis, and photographers always catch her cheering and looking intense. Everyone wants to see Kate show up after seeing her radiant smile at the King’s birthday celebration.
Debbie Jevans was quoted as saying,
“We’re hopeful that the Princess of Wales will be able to present the trophies as the Club patron, but her health and recovery is the priority. We’ll work with her and give her as much flexibility as possible.”
The tournament is for two weeks, between July 1st and 14th. We are keeping our fingers crossed that Kate feels well enough to make it to Wimbledon and spread some of her trademark positivity this year.
