Kate Middleton and Prince William shared a sweet moment in Scotland today as they learned how to curl and enjoyed a sporty face-off.
Kate and William Tried Their Hand at Curling
It was an action- packed day of engagements for the Prince and Princess of Wales. The royal couple visited the Scottish National Curling Center at the Peak in Stirling.
A team of staff showed Kate and William how the game is played. They also met some Paralympic players who are set to take part in the Winter Olympic Games in Italy next month.
Kate and William also spoke to the locals at the sports center and talked to children about their curling experience. After Kate did a few practice lunge motions, the Princess aced her curling attempt while wearing a skirt!
Later, Kate and William stopped by “The Goth,” short for Gothenburg, a Pub in Fallin, a mining village.
William had fun with the pub-goers and told them he wanted to help as the pair sat down, and the future King shared a pint of cider with a group of local men.
The Prince revealed that he “absolutely loves pubs.” And he said they are so crucial for people to go out and spend time with their neighbors.
Landlords have said pubs are on the brink due to rising costs. William said,
“I want to help pubs. This is the best place to come out and get to know each other.”
He described pubs as the “heart of the community.” When William sat down to socialize with the men, he heard how The Goth brings people together in the local community.
The pub, which has a long history in Fallin, offers miners a place to drink after work and has become a local hub for the community.
The Royal Couple Visited the Local Pub That Is Important to Many People
The village became a popular refuge during the 1980s workers’ strike. The two flats above the pub offer cheap rent for young people.
William responded,
“It’s crucial. It’s the human-to-human contact, isn’t it, rather than just being on the phone or watching TV.”
The prince was seen laughing at jokes, and Kate and William were generally laid-back and relaxed in the low-key setting.
At another table, Princess Catherine was gifted a crochet bunny for her daughter, Princess Charlotte. The older woman who gave it to her took up crocheting about a year ago and auctions off her creations to raise money for the local hospice.
Before the royal couple left the pub, Kate spotted William’s unfinished drink and told him, “You need to finish that.” William laughed and said that he wanted to stay on his “best behavior.”
Earlier in the day, William was seen gently putting his arm around Kate as they visited the Kelpies, in a display of support and affection.
Their next stop will be to the handweaving studio, Radical Weavers, to learn about the heritage of Scottish tartan weaving. Tartan weaving can be a very therapeutic experience and help those who have experienced trauma restore their confidence.
As usual, the Prince and Princess dazzled everyone they met today in Scotland. It was a fun-filled and eventful day for the royal pair.
