The royals are nothing if not calculable. Queen Elizabeth II left her money and jewels to members of the royal family. You can tell who Queen Elizabeth favored based on who got what after her passing.
Queen Elizabeth the Second is the daughter of King George VI and Queen Elizabeth I. After her father’s passing in February 1952, she became Queen.
Queen Elizabeth II Left Behind a Sizeable Inheritance
The Queen died in September 2022, leaving behind a sizeable inheritance. King Charles is her oldest child. After Queen Elizabeth passed, she bequeathed to him the Sovereign Grant, which is the expense account of the royal family.
The Sovereign Grant is one of the royal family’s primary revenue sources. It covers items such as travel, security, staff, and maintenance of royal palaces.
Charles also inherited a cool $500 million from the Queen, including her castles, jewels, art collection, and a horse farm.
Prince William, the oldest child of King Charles, inherited the Duchy of Cornwall, a private estate established in 1337, worth about $1.2 billion. It will provide income for Prince William and Kate Middleton.
Princess Kate inherited $110 million in jewelry from the Queen’s special jewelry collection. It includes dazzling personal jewelry consisting of at least 300 pieces belonging to Elizabeth.
As the family favorite, Kate was bequeathed jewelry that reportedly made Queen Camilla see green. She was very jealous that Kate received the best, most cherished pieces.
Kate’s daughter, Princess Charlotte, inherited the Spencer Tiara, which Princess Diana famously wore during her 1981 wedding to (then) Prince Charles.
Harry and Meghan Received Nothing
Prince Harry was not a beneficiary of a single dime left to the royal family. Once Harry abandoned his royal duties, the Queen decided Harry would not stand to inherit anything from her.
However, Harry and Prince William did inherit from their mother, Princess Diana’s estate, which was about $25 million each.
Harry reportedly used a large portion of the money after the infamous “Megxit” when he and his wife, Meghan, left the royal family and moved to California.
Meghan Markle inherited nothing from the Queen: no jewelry, money, or anything. The minute Harry and Meghan left the royals, they forfeited their right to inherit from Queen Elizabeth.
It’s a bit harsh, but it’s the royal family’s way. It’s almost like a mafia. Even Prince Andrew inherited the Queen’s beloved corgis and stepped away from his royal duties.
When Queen Mother died, Elizabeth entrusted Prince Andrew with her dogs, the corgis, Muick and Sandy. They went to live with Andrew and Sarah Ferguson, Duchess of York.
The Queen had pet corgis ever since she was a child. Elizabeth treasured her four-legged companions, and it says something about Prince Andrew that he inherited them.
When the Queen died, Muick and Sandy were seen waiting for her at the quadrangle at Windsor Castle during her funeral procession. It was a very heart-rending moment.
The Queen’s 100 horses went to Princess Anne and her daughter, Zara Tindell.
As you can see, Her Majesty had her favorite royal family members, and others not so much.
