‘Grey’s Anatomy’ spoilers have found that Dr. Shepard will be returning to Grey Sloan Memorial Hospital for season 18 of the long running drama. Dr. Addison Montgomery Shepherd, that is.

Portrayer of the legacy character, Kate Walsh made the announcement this week via the Grey’s Anatomy Twitter page, sharing a video saying, “Well, well, well, would you look who it is. That’s right, my loves, Dr. Addison Montgomery is coming back to Grey Sloan Memorial Hospital and I’m so excited to be home again joining Shonda [Rhimes], Ellen [Pompeo] and the rest of the incredible cast.”

The now 53 year old joined the Seattle based hospital series during the season 1 finale, all the way back in 2005. She was introduced as the estranged wife of neurosurgeon, Dr. Derek Shepherd, creating a love triangle between the Shepherds and titular character, the then medical intern, Meredith Grey (Pompeo).

Walsh, as neonatal surgeon, Dr. Montgomery Shepherd, soon helmed a California based spinoff series, Private Practice. Also the brainchild of Shonda Rhimes, Private Practice ran from 2007 to 2013. Walsh returned to make crossover appearances on Greys Anatomy during that time.

Recently Walsh and Pompeo have had fans in stitches over their “Twitter war”, taking on their onscreen personas and still squabbling over Derek and the love triangle that Meredith ultimately won…until Derek was smoked by a semitrailer, that is.

Dr. Derek Shephard (Patrick Dempsey) made a return to the series in season 17, surprising his widow (and the show’s fans) by ‘washing up’ on her ‘limbo beach’ as Meredith struggled with COVID-19.

Several other beloved (but killed off) characters also returned to the epic season including George O’Malley (T.R. Knight), Lexie Grey (Chyler Leigh) and Mark Sloan (Eric Dane).

During her Twitter video Walsh promised fans that, even after all the star power of the previous season, number 18 will not disappoint.

“This season — 18, whew! — Just wait until you see what she has in store for you,” Walsh enthused, finishing up by announcing, “The new season premieres September 30 on ABC.”
