‘Grey’s Anatomy’ star Ellen Pompeo has opened up about her future after the long-running hospital drama comes to a conclusion…and it doesn’t look good for fans of the actress.
51-year-old Pompeo has revealed that once Meredith Grey has been put to rest, she doesn’t see herself seeking out other acting gigs.
‘Grey’s Anatomy’ Star Ellen Pompeo Has ‘No Desire’ to Keep Acting.
“I’m not saying I’ll never act again, I very well may, but I’m not super excited about continuing my acting career,” she admitted. “I’m more entrepreneurial at this stage. I’m excited about investing in businesses, and starting a business. That’s an area of growth that I’m excited about, using my brain in a different way.”
Pompeo admits that she hasn’t seen a ton of variety in her career. Best known for her role as the titular top doc, Grey, which she has played since the show originated in 2005, she’s also recognized from her role as Nicole in the Will Ferrell comedy, Old School, or by Friends fans as Ross and Chandler’s college crush Missy. Swifties also certainly recognize Pompeo from her role in Swift’s epic and celebrity-saturated Bad Blood music video. However, the actress feels as though, “I’ve done it.”
The SAG and People’s Choice Award winner continued, “Sitting around in trailers, traveling around, shooting this in Atlanta, shooting that in Vancouver. I have no desire to go sit in trailers at 11 o’clock at night and wait to shoot scenes and have ADs knock on my door and tell me when I can eat lunch. You know, it’s for the young at heart. It’s for the youth!”
What Pompeo is excited about is starting her new podcast, Tell Me. Taping for Tell Me will begin later this month and Pompeo hopes the project will serve as “an example for other women.” The mom of three plans to discuss how she changed her mindset, trapping herself in certain boxes created by other’s expectations and how, in her 50’s she broke free and feels free.
This new project is just one way Pompeo is branching out. “If it fails, it fails, but at least I’m trying something new,” she said, admitting she hasn’t tried anything new in over 15 years of working on Grey’s Anatomy.
On top of the podcast, Pompeo teases more exciting projects that she is playing coy about, not quite ready to discuss yet.
While we are glad Pompeo’s future is so bright she has to wear shades, fans of the Shondaland drama are now fearing Season 18 will be the final one of their favorite primetime soap. Just in case- catch Grey’s Anatomy season 18 when it premiers on September 30 on ABC.
