‘General Hospital’ (GH) Spoilers: reveal that Sonny Corinthos (Maurice Benard) setting himself up for the purpose of setting up Pikeman was a stroke of genius.
Sonny had set up Betty Rutherford (Ella Lentini) to find fake information regarding Pikeman so that the nanny from hell would give the information to Mason Gatlin (Nathanael Grey) and Austin Gatlin (Roger Howarth).
True to form, Mason had Austin deliver the flash drive to Cyrus Renault (Jeff Kober) in prison. Cyrus seemed tickled pink, not knowing what Sonny was planning. (Neither did the audience).
Sonny arranged for there to be a shipment on the docks, and he had his men supervise. No one knew what was about to go down, but his goal was to expose Pikeman.
Sonny got “busted” by the Feds for violating the National Security Act, and his boy, Dex Heller (Evan Hofer), leaves the scene in the nick of time.
Sonny was promptly arrested and brought to jail. Of course, he called Killer Miller (aka Diane, played by Carolyn Hennesy), and she showed up with her trademark style and charm to represent her favorite client.
‘General Hospital’ Spoilers: All Charges Against Sonny Are Dropped
We all thought this would be another drawn-out General Hospital storyline, but Sonny fans were pleasantly surprised when the charges were dropped, and the case was dismissed without prejudice.
This plan explains Sonny’s nonchalant attitude about getting “caught.” He almost seemed bored by his arrest. Everyone thought this was the end of the road for him, but Sonny was cool as a cucumber.
Sonny’s kids, Dante Falconari (Dominic Zamprogna), Kristina Davis (Kate Mansi), and even Michael Corithos (Chad Duell), are in the courtroom to support him. They feared for and expected the worst.
Just when they thought Sonny was about to get the book thrown at him, the prosecution exclaimed that there was no proof to back up their “overwhelming evidence” against him. His kids, Nina, Diane, and Dex, were extremely happy to see him set free.
After the courtroom was clear, Sonny explained to Dex that the shipment on the docks contained “ incredible coffee beans.” Dex, looking confused, left the courtroom in a daze.
‘General Hospital’ Spoilers: Nina is Not Happy Sonny That Took a Big Risk
OF course, Nina Reeves is peeved to find out the truth. She doesn’t understand why Sonny took the risk. It shows her stunning naivety and lack of ability to be the ride-or-die mob wife Sonny needs.
Sonny defends his choices and hopes Nina understands that it is necessary. Will any other secrets come out that Nina won’t be happy about?
This plotline was a brilliant twist in what could have been a long, boring, drawn-out story. It made perfect sense that Sonny would resort to such measures once he understood his daughter, Avery Jerome Corinthos (Ava and Grace Scarola), was in possible danger.
The direction of this story was brilliant and unpredictable. IT left many fans wondering, “Who set Sonny up?” Who would have guessed it was the Godfather himself?
Once the case was dismissed, his intentions became quite clear. Sonny set the whole thing up to sniff out the rat. He knew what he was doing the entire time.
It just goes to show you that General Hospital still has a few tricks up its sleeve.
