‘General Hospital’ spoilers reveal that Kelly Thiebaud, who plays Britt Westbourne, recently spoke out about Steve Burton, who plays Jason Morgan, shock hiatus from GH.
‘General Hospital’ Spoilers: Burton Wants to Spend More Time with His Family
TV Insider shared a first look at Thiebaud’s reaction to Burton’s hiatus from an interview with her and Maurice Benard on his podcast, State of Mind. Benard, who plays Sonny Corinthos, asked Thiebaud about how she honestly felt.
While Burton’s exit is only temporary, Thiebaud was still disappointed. The actress explained,
“I was shocked when I found out. I was very shocked. So, I confronted Steve about it.”
She added that when she spoke to Burton, he “gave her his reasons.” According to the actor, his exit stems from a desire to spend more time with his family. Burton recently married chef and content creator Michelle Lundstrom in May 2025.
Burton first announced his plans on his podcast with Bradford Anderson, who plays Damian Spinelli, That’s Awesome,
“I want to take a break. I want to live life a bit and go enjoy.”
Thiebaud also recognized the desire to experience life and walk away from acting for a while,
“I know what that feels like. But on the other side of that, I feel let down, you know?”
She told Maurice,
“So, I thought we had time together, and it’s just been really hard. He has more important things in his life. I completely understand that. But I’m sad. I’m sad that he’s going.”
Thiebaud expressed her frustrations, while fans have also expressed their own concern that Burton may enjoy his time away from GH so much that he may leave the show altogether, only this time, for good.

We have to wonder if maybe that’s where Kelly’s head is at. She may believe that if he goes on hiatus, not only will it impact the current storyline between Britt and Jason, but Burton may never come back and finish what they started. We don’t necessarily believe that, but we could see why she could.
Thiebaud had returned with the thought in mind that her character and Burton’s would have the chance to explore their on-screen chemistry. She came back primarily so that Jason and Britt could finally get together.
Benard acknowledged that Burton’s exit “seemed abrupt.” Maurice also stated,
“We just have to let Steve be Steve.”
Thiebaud agreed with the host,
“He’s got to go live his life, and I wish him nothing but the best, I really do. I love Steve and will miss him terribly, but again, I understand. You gotta go when you feel the need to go.”
Jason and Britt’s GH romance started in May 2021. Sadly, Burton was let go with the soap due to disagreements over the COVID-19 vaccine mandates.
At the time of Burton’s departure from the show, Thiebaud shared with Soap Opera Digest,
“We were all really excited to go on this journey, and then the whole bomb dropped with his exit, and I was really disappointed about that. It was like, what just happened? I stayed on the show for this storyline!”
Burton ended up returning to his role as Jason in March 2024. Thiebaud’s character, Britt, was “killed off” in January 2023. Kelly returned to GH in July 2025. Fans have been excited for a Jason/Britt pairing.
