‘General Hospital’ spoilers share that Katelyn MacMullen recently dished to Soap Opera Digest on Willow Tait’s marriage to Drew Cain (Cameron Mathison). The wedding was sparse, and it wasn’t exactly the world’s greatest love story.
‘General Hospital’ Spoilers: Willow’s Only Ambition Is to Get Her Kids Back
Nina Reeves (Cynthia Watros) pointed out to Willow that she could walk out if she really didn’t love Drew. Willow responded by saying that it wasn’t necessary for her to love Drew.
Willow’s goal is to get her kids back. She really thinks that marrying Drew will accomplish that. Willow hasn’t been in love with Drew since she found out on their previous wedding day that Drew had been sleeping with her mom, Nina, while they were “falling in love.”
Plus, Willow has been accused of shooting Drew and Willow, and Drew both believe that if they’re married, it will send a powerful message to the judge that they are a united front.
MacMullen explains her character’s motivation,
“She’s out of prison, but she’s only out on bail. Her back is against the wall, and she needs any hope that she’ll get through this.”
She continued,
“So I think she kind of wanted to latch onto Drew at that point. His re-proposing was what she wanted, but it’s not that she wanted it because she genuinely wants to be married to him, she wanted it because she needed it!”
The actress exclaims that filming the wedding was a lot of fun. Willow also genuinely cares about Drew’s daughter, Scout Cain (Cosette Abinate), which makes it a little easier for her.
‘General Hospital’ Spoilers: “I Don’t Have to Love Him, I Love My Children”
However, Willow has also been playing Drew like a fiddle, pretending she’s forgiven him for everything, but really, she knows that at the end of the day, Drew has her back.
Willow bluntly admitted to Nina,
“I don’t have to love him; I love my children.”
The wedding is basically a legal strategy for Willow as she navigates the PCPD’s case against her.
MacMullen says,
“I think Drew and Willow are both getting what they want and need, but it’s not out of real love.”
Willow is desperate to get her kids back, and she’ll do anything to make that happen. Even if it means marrying someone she’s not really in love with him anymore.
Even though Drew hurt and disappointed her spectacularly, she’s still committed to doing whatever it takes to make it happen.
Willow is determined to regain access to Wiley Corinthos (Viron Weaver) and Amelia Corinthos (Sequoia and Serenity Mork Macko).
Plus, Willow obviously has a much better chance of being granted visitation if she has her freedom. Yet, she doesn’t believe in the system after what happened at the last custody hearing, where Michael Corinthos (Rory Gibson) was awarded full custody of the kids.
‘General Hospital’ Spoilers: For Willow, It’s a Matter of Survival
Willow wants Drew as an ally because he’s a Congressman with potential sway and pull, and may be able to manipulate the legal system to go their way. For Willow, it’s a matter of survival.
Drew is hopelessly in love with Willow, and he’ll do whatever he can to give Willow her kids back. He despises Michael and is desperate to be a family with Willow again.
MacMullen also admits that her alter ego isn’t thinking about this marriage as a “forever commitment to Drew.” She’s living in the moment, and at the moment, she’s not allowed to see her children.
The actress also understands where Willow is coming from right now,
“She’s like, I could go to prison, so what do I have to lose at this point? Either I lose all my freedom, forever, or I never see my kids again, or I go through with this and possibly regain my freedom. She’s very much in a frame of mind where she feels like she’s got nothing left to lose.”
