‘General Hospital’ (GH) spoilers suggest that GH is making a massive mistake with the sloppy way they are writing Ava Jerome (Maura West).
‘General Hospital’ Spoilers: Ava Is Supposed To Be a Vixen, Not A Villian
Ava is supposed to be a complicated, multi-layered martini-drinking vixen. However, the new writers are penning a story fit for an immoral sociopathic villain.
Troublemakers are one thing. We can all agree that a good troublemaker is necessary for viewers to have some fun. But a good troublemaker with redeeming qualities on any soap is pay dirt.
That’s what Ava was before the current writers messed with West’s character. That being said, Maura West is a goldmine, and she’s easy to watch. She’s a brilliant actress with all the spunk and sophistication of an old-school film actress.
There’s no question how talented Maura West is, but the writers are doing Ava a disservice by making her unrootable.
It started with her keeping quiet about Sonny Corinthos‘s (Maurice Benard) faulty prescription. The audience still doesn’t understand her motives.
Ava’s life was going well until she developed a mysterious and odd need to be the only person Sonny could “trust.” Her not telling Sonny someone is messing with his medicine makes no sense.
While it’s true that Ava switched Morgan Corinthos‘s (Bryan Craig) meds eons ago, resulting in his death, Ava seemed to learn from her mistakes.
She had turned over a new leaf and became like a second mother to Trina Robinson (Tabyana Ali). She fell madly in love with Nikolas Cassadine (Adam Huss) and even had a bestie in her former nemesis, Nina Reeves (Cynthia Watros). Now, inexplicably, the writers decided to make them enemies again.
‘General Hospital’ Spoilers: The Writers Must Fix This
The list of Ava’s indiscretions is unending. The writers decided it would be a good idea to make her the person who was responsible for having Alexis Davis (Nancy Lee Grahn) disbarred, which also made little sense.
Then, Ava gave the editor-in-chief a recording of Natalia Rogers Rameriz (Eva LaRue) talking derogatory about gay people and making negative comments about her daughter, Blaze (aka Allison Rogers, played by Jacqueline Grace Lopez), and her relationship with Kristina Corinthos-Davis (Kate Mansi), which ruined both their careers.
While Ava was wrong for providing the recording, the show seems focused on making her the villain instead of calling attention to how cruel and bigoted Natalia’s comments were.
The final nail in Ava’s coffin will be her having Sonny’s pharmacist replace his pills with total placebos. He will no doubt spiral out of control and commit some heinous felony that will either land him in prison or a stay at Ferncliff.
Ava has no one in her corner, not even Trina. It won’t be easy to redeem her this time, if at all. This scenario is reminiscent of what the show did with Julian Jerome (William deVry). They destroyed his character when he planted that bomb in the Floating Rib.
Hopefully, this isn’t going where we think it’s going, with a murder mystery with Ava as the victim. The writers need to wake up and realize that not only is Maura West a treasure, but her character isn’t supposed to be pure evil.
