Alec Baldwin is being taken to court by the family of a Marine killed in Afghanistan. They’re claiming that the actor falsely accused and harassed one of them claiming they were a rioter on January 6th.
The family of late Marine Rylee McCollum, one of the 13 U.S. troops killed in last August’s bombing outside the Kabul airport, is suing Baldwin for comments he’s made.
According to the lawsuit that was obtained by TMZ, McCollum’s family claim Alec found out about the family’s loss and sent the widow of the Marine $5,000. However, what was a nice thing from Alec has ended up being a nightmare.
Family Of Fallen Marine Is Suing Alec Baldwin For Defamation – “Have A Nice Day!”
Apparently, Baldwin saw a photo posted of the Marine’s sister at the Washington Monument on January 6th before the riot had started. Alec commented on the photo, “Are you the same woman that I sent the $ to for your sister’s husband who was killed during the Afghanistan exit”.
Shortly after, Alec began direct messaging the Marine’s sister and accused her of being a “January 6th rioter”.
She responded, “Protesting is perfectly legal in the country and I’ve already had my sit down with the FBI. Thanks, have a nice day!”. However, Baldwin continued on with his rant and continued to taunt the woman.
In the documents, the family says Alec did repost her photo which led to tons of his followers threatening and harassing the McCollum family online. As it turns out she did not participate in the Capitol riot and she had already been interviewed by the FBI and was cleared of any wrongdoing.
The McColloms are during Baldwin for defamation, negligence, intentional infliction of emotional distress and more, adding up to more than $25 million in damages.
