Facebook’s Oversight Board said the platform can keep blocking former President Donald J. Trump from using it. This came after Trump’s suspension in January after the US Capital riots. However, the board also said that Facebook must review the decision within six months.

The board also criticized Facebook for having the suspension indefinite, saying, “In applying a vague, standardless penalty and then referring this case to the Board to resolve, Facebook seeks to avoid its responsibilities.” Quite an interesting response from the Board that they would take shots at the company.

“Facebook can keep blocking former President Trump from using its platform, the social network’s court-like Oversight Board said Wednesday. The landmark move affirms the company’s decision to suspend Trump in January after the US Capitol riots. However, the board said Facebook must review the decision within six months. The board also criticized Facebook for having made the suspension indefinite. “In applying a vague, standardless penalty and then referring this case to the Board to resolve, Facebook seeks to avoid its responsibilities,” the decision said.”

It’s interesting that the Board said that Facebook was trying to avoid its responsibilities. When we go back and look at what Trump posted, we see worse things every day. It does seem like this was very politically motivated and not trying to “keep people safe”.

In the meantime, Trump has created his own website that only he can post on and his followers can repost on Facebook and Twitter, effectively circumventing his ban. Will Facebook review his ban and realize that they should allow him back on or will they come up with a better reason as to why they’ve banned him?

What do you think? Should he have been banned in the first place? Why do you think so or don’t think so? Let us know in the comments below.
