Ellen DeGeneres might soon be in panic mode. According to new reports, her long-running daytime television talk show has averaged a less-than-stellar rating of 1.2, which is about 1.7 million viewers a day. This is about an almost 40 percent drop from her ratings last year. Here’s what you need to know.
It seems as though there are more viewers tuning out than tuning in. That’s because Ellen has been marred with controversy this past summer.

This comes after several reports have indicated that Ellen is certainly not the ‘Queen of Nice’ or at least, when it comes to the way she has treated people in the past. Others say that Ellen is the kind of person who doesn’t want anyone to speak to her unless spoken to, let alone chew gum in her presence.
The show is currently being investigated for it’s “toxic work environment” following allegations made that Ellen is perhaps one of the most difficult people to work with in the entertainment industry.
During her premiere, Ellen addressed the toxic work environment and sexual harassment allegations that have marred her show in recent months. She said, “As you may have heard this summer, there were allegations of a toxic work environment at our show and then there was an investigation. I learned that things happened here that never should’ve happened. I take that very seriously, and I want to say I’m so sorry to the people who were affected.”
Of course, it didn’t take very long for Ellen’s critics (and some fans) to respond to the news that less and less people are tuning in to her show. Some comments have included, “Used to like her. Then I watched game of games which basically abuses people for wrong answers. Then the allegations came out and I was done with her,” along with, “Meh, she deserves it, especially after that lame non-apology she opened the season with. I knew sooner or later people would see what a fake she is.”
Another critic put it this way, “I work in media…our clients advised us to pull all our ads from her show. Not just because the ratings tanked (ratings in general have taken a huge hit), mostly because of the content and the controversy.”
So far Ellen herself has not made any comments about the decline in her ratings, but at this point it’s doubtful anything will be said. Instead, the daytime television talk show host will most likely focus on trying to save her show. Do you agree?
