El Secreto de Selena spoilers for Sunday, October 13th have a blow to both sides of the trial, some more accusations against Abraham Quintanilla (Jorge Zárate), and Selena Quintanilla (Maya Zapata) offers Yolanda Saldívar (Damayanti Quintanar) an option. Also, Alejandro (Gustavo Egelhaaf) and Manny (Moisés Arizmendi) both get on Maria Celeste Arrarás’ (Sofía Lama) bad side. If you missed it, let’s get to your El Secreto de Selena recap.

El Secreto de Selena spoilers: Strange behavior

In this episode, a lot of the questioning centers around the strange behavior of Yolanda the month Selena was murdered. She’d apparently gone to a store to purchase a gun and was a bit upset about the waiting period, but went ahead with the purchase.

The strange part was, she came back to return the gun shortly after getting it, claiming someone had already bought her one and she didn’t need two. The return was accepted, but then she returned to buy the same gun 11 days later. This is a huge blow to Douglas Tinker (José Sefami) and his team, as it makes her look like she was plotting this whole thing. However, one witness does say that when she came in to buy it, she’d said she was scared of someone. A supposed patient’s family who was threatening her.

El Secreto de Selena spoilers: Running Scared

We flash back to before the murder to Yolanda visiting with an attorney. She was planning to resign, as she didn’t want to work with the family anymore. She even tells the attorney that Abraham would rather kill her than give her anything.

Later, there’s a meeting between her and Selena. Yolanda claims that Abraham was harassing her, but Selena is skeptical. There are so many unanswered questions, like why Yolanda would write a 3,000 dollar check to someone she doesn’t even know. Yolanda tells Selena things have been bad. She believes that Abraham is trying to get rid of her, as he doesn’t like Yolanda’s unconditional support of Selena and her other business. She suggests he’s afraid she’ll leave music. Selena is having enough of this feud and makes a suggestion. She wants Yolanda to stop having anything to do with the fan club and her family. Instead, she’ll work for Selena exclusively on running the Monterrey business.

Things start going wrong for the prosecution when a witness who works at the gun range is being questioned by Tinker. The guy is detracted, and keeps looking at a paper he’s holding. Tinker orders it to be shown, and the judge agrees to it. It’s a picture of Tinker that has devil horns drawn on it, as well as what Tinker later describes to the press as “disparaging remarks” about him and his clothes. Carlos Valdez (Plutarco Haza) is furious. Someone on the team should have stopped this from happening. It’s unforgivable.

El Secreto de Selena spoilers: Could it?

One thing that’s both good and bad for both sides is the talk of guns and whether the gun Yolanda had could have gone off accidently. Both sides make good arguments about the question, but it does seem that the edge might be going the defense’s way. Tinker keeps driving home the idea that Yolanda was inexperienced with firearms, making it more likely that something could have accidently gone wrong.

El Secreto de Selena spoilers: Ninja

Maria Celeste is bust today trying to make Alejandro into a great reporter. She tells him that they need to not just report the news, but provoke it as she drives home the idea that one needs to be a ninja in order to learn what they need to know about a story.

Alejandro, taking this to heart, works up a scheme where he steals a janitor outfit and sneaks into the records room. He’s looking for information about a mystery witness from Mexico. While he’s taking shots of the paper, someone busts him and Maria Celeste is furious. She’s worked many years to build her reputation, and now someone on her team is caught sneaking into court records like this. She tells him he’s lucky he’s not getting charged, and wants him at her side at all times. She softens a bit, though, she he tells her that he knows the name of the mystery witness and his lawyer’s number now.

El Secreto de Selena spoilers: We’re through

After the trial, Maria Celeste is still working on the book in 1996 and planning a vacation with Manny. Her manicurist, who Maria Celeste has known for years, is happy about this. She thinks that anyone can slip up. Oops. Maria Celeste tells her that their problems are related to her miscarriage and she demands to know who Manny “slipped up” with. She tells Maria Celeste that it was Magda (Paloma Ruiz de Alda), and it happened while Maria Celeste was covering the trial.

Maria Celeste, furious, goes to Manny’s office and confronts him. She was working like a dog in Houston, while he was messing around with his ex. He tries to explain himself away, but Maria Celeste isn’t interested in whether or not it meant anything, or how relieved he is this is out in the open. She can’t trust him anymore. She’s through with him, and kicks him out of their house.
