Ellen DeGeneres announced her long-running, Emmy winning talk show, The Ellen DeGeneres Show would be coming to an end after its 19th and final season wraps in 2022.
Host, 63-year-old DeGeneres, explained that while she was “destroyed” by the revelations of staffers calling the talk show set a “toxic environment”, she cited the ‘lack of a challenge’ for deciding to end the show and not the controversy that saw three head producers fired from the show.
Dakota Johnson Becomes Twitter’s Hero: Hailed for Ending Ellen DeGeneres’ Talk Show
While this announcement saddened legions of fans, many more critics of DeGeneres took to Twitter to celebrate the end of the era. And an unlikely hero emerged.
Dakota Johnson who, back in November of 2019, famously called DeGeneres out on the show for lying about not receiving an invitation to Johnson’s birthday party has been hailed as a hero. The 50 Shades of Grey actress’ actions during the interview on the show have been labelled as “throwing the first brick” in what ultimately became a downward spiral for the comedienne’s show and perhaps career.

DeGeneres, refutes all claims of being deserving of her new moniker “the Queen of Mean” but it seems the small ripple created by Johnson could have been the tipping point to unravel DeGeneres’ web of deception. At least according to the Tweeters.

Ratings for The Ellen DeGeneres Show have been on the declined for years, with the current season 18 really showing signs of the struggle. Yes, there will be those who miss the show, but it seems a large potion of the public, and likely fellow afternoon television hosts, Kelly Clarkson, Drew Barrymore and Tamron Hall, won’t be so sad to see the final season end next year.

Moral of the story? Don’t lie about not being invited to a birthday party and go hang out at a football game with former president George W. Bush instead!
