Ellen DeGeneres managed to keep her show, but she’s lost a whole lot of viewers. There’s a new report that says the embattled talk show host has lost over one million viewers since addressing her toxic workplace claims. She spoke about the show’s supposed ‘toxicity’ during the season premiere back in September. Here’s what you need to know.
Reports say that Ellen’s daytime talk show has dropped dramatically in viewership following the star’s toxic workplace scandal that dominated headlines last year. Citing Nielsen ratings, the New York Times reports that The Ellen DeGeneres Show has lost over 1 million viewers over the course of the show’s 18th season.

The show’s core audience of women under 54 fell by 38%, and ad revenue lost 20% of its value going from $131 million to $105 million. Yet, according to David McGuire, executive vice president of programming at Warner subsidiary Telepictures, the show has been renewed for another year.
“The Ellen DeGeneres Show remains one of the top three highest-rated syndicated talk shows this season… While broadcast is down across the board and COVID has been challenging for production, we are looking forward to bringing back our live audiences and a 19th season filled with all of the hilarious and heartwarming moments that have made Ellen one of the longest running and most successful talk shows in history.”
Of course, this has a lot of fans confused, as Ellen’s 43 percent drop in viewership is not good news. She’s now only 100,000 viewers ahead of Maury Povich when she used to be pulling in Live With Kelly And Ryan numbers.
The show was investigated for its “toxic work environment” following allegations made that Ellen is perhaps one of the most difficult people to work with in the entertainment industry.
During her premiere, Ellen addressed the toxic work environment and sexual harassment allegations that have marred her show in recent months.
She said, “As you may have heard this summer, there were allegations of a toxic work environment at our show and then there was an investigation. I learned that things happened here that never should’ve happened. I take that very seriously, and I want to say I’m so sorry to the people who were affected.”
