Don Johnson, the father of Hollywood actress Dakota Johnson, has spoken on their relationship, which contributed to the latter’s stardom in Hollywood.

By the sounds of it, Dakota had a tough upbringing under the guidance of her father, who instilled in her some precious life lessons. In an interview on the Late Night with Seth Meyers show, Don revealed how he made Dakota fend for herself from an early age. He said: “We have a rule in the family that, you know, if you stay in school, you get to stay on the payroll.
“So, you go to college, you get to stay on the payroll. Toward the end of high school, I went to [Dakota], and I said, ‘So, do you want to go visit some colleges?’ Or something like that. And she was like, ‘Oh, no. I’m not going to college.” Dakota has, since then, had no regrets as she has starred in major Hollywood films such as the Fifty Shades franchise.
And the earnings from such films have set her up for a lifetime. But what was Dakota’s reaction at the time? Well, she was unperturbed as Don outlined. He added: “I went, ‘OK, you know what that means? You don’t be on the payroll anymore. Don’t worry about it.” There is clearly no love lost between the two as everything has worked out so well in their respective careers.
They have continued to remain very close and have praised each other in the past for the work they have done. Dakota, since her earlier days, has now found herself and started her own life with her new flame Chris Martin. But work commitments have sadly prevented Dakota and her father from meeting up as much.
He continued: “She doesn’t really call me for advice. She calls me to say, ‘Gosh, I would see you, but I’ve got three pictures that I’m shooting at the same time.” It is good to see the two having such a good relationship. It is not very often in Hollywood that such families remain stable, but as for this one, they are a positive exception.
