WINDSOR, ENGLAND - APRIL 17: Prince Harry, Duke of Sussex during the Ceremonial Procession during the funeral of Prince Philip, Duke of Edinburgh at Windsor Castle on April 17, 2021 in Windsor, England. Prince Philip of Greece and Denmark was born 10 June 1921, in Greece. He served in the British Royal Navy and fought in WWII. He married the then Princess Elizabeth on 20 November 1947 and was created Duke of Edinburgh, Earl of Merioneth, and Baron Greenwich by King VI. He served as Prince Consort to Queen Elizabeth II until his death on April 9 2021, months short of his 100th birthday. His funeral takes place today at Windsor Castle with only 30 guests invited due to Coronavirus pandemic restrictions. (Photo by Chris Jackson/WPA Pool/Getty Images)

Prince Harry stayed with his mother, Princess Diana’s brother, Charles, the 9th Earl Spencer, during his trip to the UK last week for his uncle, Lord Fellow’s funeral on August 29th.

Harry Feels At Home With The Spencers

Harry’s stay at Althorp emphasizes his connection to his mother’s side of the family. Charles also attended the Duke’s tenth-anniversary Invictus Games Thanksgiving service in May at St. Paul’s Cathedral in London.

Harry’s father, King Charles, and his brother, Prince Willam, did not attend. His Majesty entertained guests at the season’s first Buckingham Palace Garden party.

It was initially claimed that Prince Harry decided to stay in a hotel during his visit. However, it has now been revealed that Harry bunked at Althorp’s family home, where Princess Diana is buried. Her final resting place is on an island on the Oval Lake on the property.

When Prince Harry went to the UK for the Invictus Games, the King offered for him to stay at Buckingham Place. He declined even though the palace was heavily guarded, which would have resolved the Duke’s security concerns.

It was also thought that Harry was the one to ask Charles if he could stay at a royal residence during his visit, but he changed his mind and went to a hotel. That’s also untrue.

The truth is that Harry was offered a room during Charles’s stay at Clarence House. Harry turned down a golden opportunity for someone so focused on their level of security.

The Duke lost his legal battle with the High Court and RAVEC over his taxpayer-funded security when he visited the UK. Since Harry is no longer a working royal, he shouldn’t get the same privileges.

The judge ruled that the British government was entitled to change the level of protection. Harry has the right to challenge the decision and will continue fighting. He’s currently in the midst of an appeal.

However, the idea that he would turn down a stay at Buckingham Palace and visit with his father may explain why the King didn’t attend the Invictus ceremony.

Lord Fellowes’ funeral should have also been a time to bring the family together. Unfortunately for William, it may have dredged up the painful sting of betrayal. William and Harry kept away from each other at the service.

Royal expert Richard Fitzwilliams had this to say about Harry’s appearance at the funeral,

“Most people were astounded that Harry came. He was in remarkably good form, and you could tell he was very pleased to see everybody. And he was very pleased that he had come over.”

“The announcement of his staying at Althorp after the memorial service intentionally emphasizes his links with his mother’s family.”

    Mr. Fitzwilliams declared.

He also mentioned that the Spencer clan may show up to support the Duke come time for the Invictus Games in Birmingham in 2027.

Harry clearly feels at home with his mother’s side of the family, and it’s probably a more comfortable situation. Of course, he didn’t trash them in his tell-all memoir, “Spare.”
