Prince William and Prince Harry were together in the same room on Wednesday, August 28th, for their uncle Lord Fellows’s funeral.
The Spencers Have Been Supportive Of Harry
The last time they were in the same vicinity was for their father, King Charles’s coronation in May 2023. They last spoke at Queen Elizabeth’s funeral in September 2022. The brothers kept their distance and didn’t even glance at each other the whole time.
Lord Fellows was married to Lady Jane Spencer, the older sister of the late Princess Diana. He was also Queen Elizabeth’s private secretary during the most tumultuous years of her reign. He passed away last month for an undisclosed reason.
Prince Harry has remained close to his mother’s side of the family. Prince William is close to them as well. The Spencers have stepped up to support the Duke of Sussex while his father’s side of the family has been absent.
Diana’s brother, Earl Spencer, and Lady Jane, attended Harry’s Invictus Games tenth-anniversary service in St. Paul’s Cathedral in London in May.
King Charles was hosting Buckingham Palace’s first garden party of the season during the event and couldn’t make it.
Harry’s fondness for Earl Spencer and Lady Jane was evident when they hugged each other outside of the church prior to the festivities. He appreciated that he could depend on them for support.
It’s a far cry from the display at the first Invictus Games in 2014, where King Charles, Queen Camilla, Prince William, and Kate Middleton showed up for the Duke.
Unfortunately, Harry made his bed when he decided to disparage the royal family publicly. He’s significantly hurt his father and brother over the past few years.
Earl Spencer Has Publicly Chastised The Royal Family
The Spencers’ presence at the anniversary event demonstrated that those familial bonds haven’t broken, and their loyalty toward Harry has never wavered.
Harry’s Aunts, Lady Jane, and Lady Sarah McCorquodale, were the few family members attending Princess Lilibet’s christening.
They were also an integral part of Prince Archie’s christening. They have been there with Harry through many of his triumphs and tragedies.
Harry also paid tribute to Lady Jane, Lady Sarah, and Earl Spencer at the end of his tell-all memoir, “Spare,” but did not mention his father, late grandmother, or brother.
It would have been challenging for Harry to create a book trashing his father’s side of the family and how they have treated him so unfairly but still thank them in the book’s acknowledgment section.
In his eulogy at Diana’s funeral, Earl Spencer said that his late sister “needed no royal title” to “generate her particular brand of magic.”
He memorably and openly rebuked the royal family at Diana’s funeral. Denouncing his sister’s poor treatment, he expressed his disgust with them and vowed to protect his young godsons, William and Harry.
He also famously slammed the decision for the two boys to follow behind their mother’s coffin at the funeral. The royal family did not invite Earl Spencer or his sisters to the King’s coronation.
The Spencers may be able to reunite the brothers if they were willing to do the work to heal the rift between them. However, it may take years for that to happen if it ever does.
