Meghan and Prince Harry decided to renounce their royal duties on the basis that they could no longer cope with the continued scrutiny that was being perpetuated over their lives. And this all came to a head on their CBS interview, which portrayed the Royals in such a negative light. And yet, there were such high hopes for Meghan.
During an interview with The Telegraph, Jodie said: “I think that Meghan could have been [one of the monarchy’s great modernisers]. It was a terrible missed opportunity…and [could have] change[d] it to something for the better.” Meghan’s disclosures only went on to divide people further.
Her interview was received relatively well in the United States, where Meghan was praised for being very brave in opening up on such sensitive issues. However, it was completely antithetical in the UK. Meghan was criticized not only over the timing of the interview, which coincided with Prince Philip’s ill health and subsequent death, but also over the veracity of her claims.
And much like the British nation, Jodie is indifferent to the monarchy. She added: “I would not consider myself a monarchist… We will recognize that certain things are archaic, and don’t really serve us as a community and are limiting us.” Jodie’s comments about Meghan certainly ring true, when we look at what Meghan has done in the aftermath of her departure from the Royals.
Firstly, she has set up a podcast alongside Harry in order to give people an exclusive insight into her life. Secondly, she has released a children’s book based on her time of bringing up Archie. The culmination of these ventures is reportedly set to make Meghan and Harry be on course to become a billionaire couple. So looking back, they ultimately made the right decision.
It is hard to see Meghan and Harry ever making a return. But what we do know is that they will continue to go on strong and live a life of their own making.
