Prince Harry claims that his late grandmother, Queen Elizabeth, would support his tabloid battle. “she’s very much ‘up there,” prompting him to continue the fight.
Prince Harry Fears for The Safety Of His Family
The Duke of Sussex made the claim on an ITV documentary, “Tabloids On Trial.” He said he often spoke with the late Queen about his campaign against the media.
“We had many conversations before she passed, and this is something that she very much supported,” he said. She knew how much this meant to me, and she’s very much up there saying, “See this through to the end,” as he pointed to the sky.
Harry weaved his tale of woe, saying he doesn’t feel comfortable having his wife, Meghan Markle, and his children, Prince Archie and Princess Lilibet, with him when he comes to the UK because of the security situation.
Meghan hasn’t been to the UK since Queen Elizabeth’s funeral in September 2022. Archie and Lilibet haven’t been to Britain since Lilibet’s first birthday, which coincided with the Platinum Jubilee Celebrations. It was the first and only time the Queen met her great-granddaughter.
Prince Harry said that he feared someone confronting his family with a knife or acid attack. He spoke like he and the Queen were in constant contact with the Queen before she died.
Harry’s taxpayer-funded security was removed since he is no longer a working royal, which is one of the rules the Queen has always stuck by.
The Duke of Sussex lost his High Court challenge against the British government. The Executive Committee for the Protection of Royalty and Public Figures decided to downgrade his security, and Harry is fighting against it.
He left Britain in January 2020, after he and Meghan stepped down as working royals, and he and his wife now live in Montecito, California.
Harry Claims To Be Doing This “For The Greater Good”
It’s not clear if it’s true that the Queen would have encouraged his crusade against the tabloids because the rest of the royal family isn’t in favor of it.
That being said, emails disclosed to the High Court in 2018 revealed that the late Queen approved a decision to take legal action against Newsgroup Newspapers.
Harry admitted that his tirade against the media contributed to the rift between him and his family. However, we all know the primary reason for the row was that he used his family to garner publicity.
In court documents, the Duke also alleged that his grandmother was aware of a “secret agreement” between Buckingham Palace and the publishers of The Sun in which the royals “agreed not to sue.”
The judge rebuffed this statement, who saw through the allegation after all sides vehemently denied this.
The interviewer asked whether Harry was seeking attention through his court battles. He said, “There’s more than enough attention on me and my wife anyway.”
He said no one was better suited to expose these tabloids than himself. Harry also said it would have been nice if his family had joined the fight.
He said,
“I believe that, from a service standpoint and when you’re in a public role, these are the things you should be doing for the greater good.”
