BBC America Doctor Who spoilers reveal we’re down to the two-part finale. Part one, which aired February 23rd, showed a bleak future. Unfortunately, The Doctor (Jodie Whittaker) is really the main one to blame. Can she fix the mess that is the future? Let’s take a look at how things went down, and what we thought.

BBC America Doctor Who Spoilers: The story

So, The Doctor was warned about the dangers of giving in to the Lone Cyberman. She decided to risk it to save someone in the past. In the process, she created a terrible future world. Humanity is all but wiped out, and the few that remain are desperately trying to avoid being upgraded by the Cybermen. In one scene, we see how many Cyberman are on just one ship. It’s a somewhat chilling moment that shows just how dire the situation is, and just how difficult the task ahead is. Of course, The Doctor remains her confident self, assuring that she will beat these creatures. She’s done it before.

BBC America Doctor Who Spoilers: What we think

Sure, Doctor Who spoilers indicate she’s right. There have been plenty of run-ins with this robotic race, dating all the way back to Classic Who. In the modern era, we’ve seen them foiled over and over. We see no reason why this should be any different. We, however, wonder if this new, improved version will give her a worse fight than in the past. It’s possible The Doctor has backed herself into a wall. And it’s mostly because of her ignoring that warning. Let’s not forget she’s got other concerns as well that could get in the way.

As for the episode itself, it wasn’t the worst of the bunch, for sure. And we didn’t exactly mind the slightly modified look to the Cybermen. We just wish we’d seen slightly more build up to it, as well as more of The Master (Sacha Dhawan) and the Gallifrey situation by now. Both he and the planet were seen near the end of the episode, setting up this week’s adventure.

BBC America Doctor Who Spoilers: Hope springs eternal

As we look ahead to the finale, we have somewhat guarded hopes. We’ll be interested to see the Gallifrey thing again. This is something we expect to be pretty big, and will likely play into next season. Sadly, we’ve been let down a lot over the past couple years. And the ratings for the series are showing people are agreeing. If this show wants to stay relevant, they’re going to need to get back to basics. In other words, more engaging stories and less messaging. As the guests making up the last of humanity were more entertaining and interesting than the main crew, that’s not a good sign.
