Doctor Who spoilers reveal the show’s done it again. This time, it’s a good thing. They followed an okay episode with something that somewhat calls to mind the Steven Moffet and Russell T. Davies eras. On Sunday, January 26th, the writers brought us a mystery and a return. So, what went down? Here’s what you need to know.

    Doctor Who Spoilers: Returning villains

The first of the returns is our villain. Fans might remember the police that invaded a hospital during Martha Jones’ (Freema Agyeman) first episode, the Judoon. This time, they’re after a whole city, and it involves our guest characters, Ruth (Jo Martin) and Lee Clayton (Neil Stuke). We think the writers did a decent job with the bad guys, as they didn’t strike us as being too different than their debut. Another bright spot in this search for a fugitive plot was Lee’s wife, Ruth. She’s a tour guide that was entertaining and someone we would be okay with seeing again. That’s a good thing.

    Doctor Who Spoilers: The mystery

After a mislead, we learn Ruth is actually the fugitive, only she doesn’t have any memory of being worth chasing. The Doctor (Jodie Whittaker) takes an interest in the situation and goes off alone with Ruth. This is where things get crazy.

It seems Ruth is more than some random fugitive. After coming across a something that woke her memories, she realizes she’s The Doctor. The weird thing is, neither Doctor in this episode knows the other. As the Doctor remembers all, one should. We know Ruth can’t be a past version of the Doctor, because we’ve seen all forms. Unless, of course, the new show runner has decided to mess with history. We’re going to say he won’t for the sake of argument. That means Ruth is either a future version who had something happen to erase her memory of 13, or she’s an alternate reality Doctor. Of course, they could also just repeat the 10 episode that also had a mysterious person claiming to be the Doctor. We hope not, because the other possibilities are intriguing. Especially since it appears tied to this other destruction of Gallifrey. But there’s something other than a mystery to get excited about here.

    Doctor Who Spoilers: The return

The other familiar face here is none other than Captain Jack Harkness (John Barrowman). We’ll admit to being low-key disappointed it took this long. He really should’ve been around during River Song’s (Alex Kingston) run, as those two would be a trip. But, we’re glad to see him back anyway. He’s returned with a warning for the Doctor, and he accidentally kidnapped her companions in his quest to deliver it. He was pretty much the same old Jack, and the actor didn’t miss a beat. We hope he’ll come back again, because this is shaping up to be an interesting arc. Of course, now that we say this, we’re expecting another letdown episode to come. Let’s hope they prove us wrong and live up to the promise of this episode. For any other soap opera and entertainment news, please visit Daily Soap Dish.
