Everyone knows why Apu was removed from ‘The Simpsons‘ but was it the correct decision and what does it mean for Indians and Indian Americans? One comedian, Akaash Singh, has a great bit about Apu and how he should still be on the show.

In his appearance on ‘The Joe Rogan Experience’, Singh explains why he came out in defense of Hank Azaria and his voicing of Apu even though he’s a caucasian man voicing a character of color and it may or may not surprise you. In the clip below, Singh explains that Apu is the most three-dimensional character on the show and is the American dream. He comes to the country with nothing, started a business, worked hard, wasn’t morally bankrupt, started a family, and ended up one of the most successful characters on the show.

Viewers helped back up Singh’s defense saying, “Not only does Apu evolve throughout the series, he’s presented in the most positive way. Dude owns a bunch of Quickymarts, is rolling in money, is an intellectual and he’a a ladies man.“, “Been saying that for the longest. Apu is one of the most positive characters on the Simpsons. And I believe that he has been treated better than most characters on the show as far as storylines. The Ep where he takes Homer to India is still one of the best shows in the entire run.” and “I wholeheartedly agree with Akaash that Apu indeed represented “The American Dream”. And I also agree that Apu should be returned to The Simpson’s story line. EDIT: I’m a 100% white/caucasian.”

With Apu written completely out of the show as of now, there could still be a chance with enough people speaking up that the show could bring him back.

What do you think? Do you agree with Singh and should they bring back Apu with the same voice from Hank Azaria? Let us know in the comments below.
