Former Dallas Cowboys running back Marion Barber III was found dead in his apartment on Wednesday. Barber was found by Frisco Police according to the Dallas Star-Telegram.

“We are heartbroken by the tragic death of Marion Barber III,” the Dallas Cowboys said in a statement.Marion was known for his downhill running and loved crashing into people at full speed, earning the nickname Marion the Barbarian.

“Marion was an old-school, hard-nosed football player who ran with the will to win every down. He had a passion for the game and love for his coaches and teammates.“

You have probably seen his highlights before, most notably escaping his own endzone while dodging and shaking off numerous New England Patriot defenders.

Barber had a solid career in the NFL spanning seven seasons, most notably for the Cowboys between 2005-2010. He was a fourth-round pick and rushed for 4,780 yards with 53 touchdowns in 99 games. However, he fell on hard times after his career was over, most recently being arrested in 2019 after allegedly damaging multiple cars. He pleaded no contest to close out the case.

His passing comes just one week before his 39th birthday.

We’re thinking about his family in these terrible times and will always remember his legacy in the NFL.

Rest in peace Marion the Barbarian. He was 38 years old.
