Jalen Hill, a college basketball player, from UCLA has died. He was 22 years old. His father shared on Tuesday this horrifying news , “Our hearts are shattered and completely broken to inform family and friends that our beloved son, Jalen has passed away.”

    What Happened?

We know Jalen has played a part in the lives of so many people. We also acknowledge the role that so many of you have played in his. As we try to navigate this devastating time in our lives, we as that you please give us time to grieve. Keep us in your thoughts and prayers.”

The UCLA Men’s Basketball team took some time to post on Twitter about the sad news that they had received, “Our program is deeply saddened to learn of the passing of former student-athlete Jalen Hill. We offer our most sincere condolences to his family and friends during this difficult time.”

His high school basketball coach, Josh Giles wrote, “He lived on the same block as I did. I’d pick him up and take him to school every day with a teammate, Sedrick Barefield. It would take 25 minutes to get to and from school every day, so we’d talk in the car, and it was never about basketball. We’d talk politics, relationships, and religion. He was a very curious, intelligent kid. I loved him. He was the best.”

Jalen played his last basketball game on January 30, 2021. He decided that he needed to take a break for a while to figure some things out. He hoped that taking a break would help him mentally and decide where to go from there. He was quite the player on the court and his teammates loved being around him.

Our hearts and thoughts go out to Jalen’s family and team. This is quite a shocking thing to hear and we are not certain what happened while he was in Costa Rica. There seems to be an ongoing investigation as to what happened and we will continue to follow this story. You can find memories and dedications to Jalen on his father’s Instagram and on the UCLA Men’s Basketball Twitter.
