The murder of Gabby Petito was heavy on our minds this fall when she first went missing. The news coverage was everywhere and eventually, we did find out that she was murdered. Her boyfriend, Brian Laundrie had some incredibly bizarre behavior when it all happened and he ran to his parent’s home to hide. They continued to avoid the police and told them that they didn’t know anything about it or even where he was. Shortly after he returned to them in Florida, his body was found by a swamp, along with notebooks that he had written in.
True Crime: The Petito’s File A Law Suit
If there is one family that was hit hard by this, it is the Petito family. They stopped getting calls and texts from their daughter back in August when she was on a road trip with Brian. They had some serious fears about their daughter and felt like he did something to her. It turns out that he did abandon her while they were traveling and then claimed that he hadn’t seen her and that they parted ways during the trip. Of course, we all knew this was false!
True Crime: Gabby Petito’s Family Sues Brian Laundrie’s Parents
When Brian got to his parents, no one contacted the police to tell them that Gabby was missing. They continued to protect their son and that is why the Petito family feels that his parents knew something the whole time. This is why they are suing his parents.
Gabby’s body was found in September in the Grand Teton National Park in Wyoming. According to the medical examiner, she died from homicidal strangulation. When this information came out, Brian vanished and the nation was looking for him as the main suspect.
At first, authorities just wanted to question him and he wasn’t a suspect, but the fact that he went into hiding spoke volumes to the public and authorities. In October, he was found dead and it came out that it was from a self-inflicted gunshot wound.
In one of the notebooks that were found, he had written his confession for Gabby’s death. Gabby’s parents have decided to take legal action against his parents. From what we have seen, it does look like they were covering up his actions.
They gave police very little information about their son, but many think that they knew where he was the whole time and that he had confessed the murder to them. The lawsuit claims that when the Petitos called police about Gabby being missing, Brian’s mother had blocked Nicole Schmidt’s phone number and immediately blocked her on Facebook. Would someone who is innocent do this?
We will keep an eye on this law suit and hope that the Petito family finds the justice they need.
