‘The Bachelorette’ season 18 is now a wrap, but season 17 alum Greg Grippo, who won then lost the heart of lead, Katie Thurston, has recently opened up about why he quit the show, and why he was sure he and Katie would end up together, anyway.

Grippo made it into the final three, along with Blake Moynes (Katie’s ultimate pick- they have since split) and the man with the faces, Justin Glaze. However, Grippo took it upon himself to self-eliminate in the penultimate episode, sending Thurston into a tailspin.

Of course, questions, and theories sprang up all over the interwebs, so now Grippo is speaking out, on the We Met at Acme podcast about why he truly left the show prematurely.

Firstly, Grippo denies leaving because Katie wouldn’t say she loves him, or that he wanted Katie to buck the show’s format, pull a Clare Crawley, and leave the show with him.

“I had no problem going into, like, the fantasy suite and there being two other guys there,” Grippo claimed, contradicting the rumors. “I wasn’t looking for the show to end. I wasn’t at all.”

Instead, he said he felt the whole show to be “too scripted.” He admits it was a tough decision but ultimately packed his suitcase and rode off into the sunset with the idea that he might just claim his lady, anyway.

Despite ‘exiting stage left’, Grippo believes the feelings he and Thurston had for one another were “real.” He informed his parents when he arrived home without a fiancé that there was still “a better chance than not” of reuniting with Thurston and he admits to “calling producers left and right” and sliding into host Kaitlyn Bristowe’s DMs, trying to find out if Thurston was engaged to Moynes or if there really was still a chance for him.

As we’ve learned, though Thurston and Moynes’ relationship was short-lived post the cameras cutting, Grippo and Thurston did not reunite. In fact, Thurston is now dating John Hersey who she had eliminated in week 2 on her season of the dating show!

Grippo is quite at peace with this, apparently, probably largely due to the verbal knock down drag out fight that occurred during the After the Final Rose special where Thurston accused Grippo with acting for the cameras and gaslighting her.

“That chapter’s closed,” Grippo confirmed, adding, “I don’t think we’re right for each other anyway.”
