Imagine if you will, having a bully all throughout middle and high school, most of us can relate. One that made your life a living hell and whom you tried to stay away from for the most part, but fate was incredibly unkind to you and decided to give your high school bully an international platform – Youtube.
That’s what happened to a twitter user, whom we’ll call Kalie. Her high school bully was Tana Mongeau. Kalie agreed to answer a few questions for us over on twitter, so we asked away.
Kalie paints a picture of pre youtube days Tana, so this is before any of the youtube money, before the manager, before the reality show and before Jake Paul. Tana was one of the popular kids, but the thing is, according to Kalie, Tana only got that way because she was mean.
All of the cool kids, one of them being Tana’s professed ‘best friend’, Imari, thought she was funny but the only reason they thought that was because she was a bully and brought down other people on the daily. One of these people was Kalie.

Kalie tells how, she was a young, LGBT teen who had not yet discovered her truth. But Tana, in her infinite wisdom, decided to ‘out’ her to everyone in their circle and spread rumors about her, including an especially vicious one about how Kalie hit on Tana, which never actually happened.
She called her all kinds of names, one of which was ‘fat dyke’ which as you can imagine was very damaging to this girl’s self-esteem. The bullying didn’t stop there, this started in middle school and went on throughout high school.
Tana twisted the story so much that she basically turned Kalie into a predator, a lesbian who “went after” straight girls. Kalie felt so victimized that it would be two years before she was comfortable enough to live her existence authentically.
In that time she dated a guy, just to prove everyone wrong, and to possibly lessen the bullying, but as a lot of people who have walked this path before Kalie can attest to, a square peg just doesn’t fit in a round hole. It was not right, and it was not Tana’s place to out someone.
Outing people can prove dangerous, not everyone is accepting, and it looks like Tana seems to fall into that category as well. In spite of claiming to be part of the LGBT community herself, coming out as bisexual pretty recently.
Sometimes its said that extremely homophobic people bully people from the LGBT community because it’s behavior that they don’t like in themselves, that could very well be Tana’s problem, but that still doesn’t excuse the hell she put this girl through and perhaps has put others through that haven’t spoken up yet.
Was there anything in particular that provoked these rumors or attacks? No. There was no inciting incident, none at all, just Tana deciding that someone’s reputation didn’t need to exist so she would obliterate it.
As for Tana herself, there’s been some inconsistencies in her stories over the years but I just brushed them off as “okay they’re party stories, they aren’t going to be consistent because veryone was inebriated” which could be true.
But there was one theme that ran rampant throughout tales of Tana’s upbringing and that was that she was “broke”, but according to Kalie, Tana always lived in the high end parts of town, and that was pre youtube, when she was still living with her parents.
Yes, her parents, including her Dad which she has told stories about in the past. She implied that her Dad was a terrible person and that her upbringing was less than stellar. Okay, financially stable doesn’t always mean functional, that’s a thing, but at the same time this begs the question if anything about Tana’s past statements were true.
I’m not one to question someone’s truth but these past actions give rise to the question if Tana’s “coming out” was just a publicity stunt. If that be the case, and she truly isn’t, then why not just post a support post as an ally and be done with it? I guess that wouldn’t have gotten as much clout.
Even after all of this, Kalie says that she has since turned her pain into laughter. The only beef she has with Tana is the fact that even after being such a terrible person, she was given an amazing platform that let her spin the narrative any way she wanted and be an influence on so many people.
She feels like she got rewarded for all of her awful past actions, and let’s face it, actions this deplorable should receive no reward. In case you’re wondering if this was something just based on rumor it was not. Kalie posted one of Tana’s previous tweets from years ago saying how some “dyke ass bitch” had left some shoes at her house and how Tana was going to “burn them”. Yes, you read that right, not return them, burn them. It wasn’t even her property to begin with!
I’d say the LGBT community should be expecting another apology video soon, but I hear Tana’s done with making those. I guess they should count themselves lucky because it doesn’t really look like she knows how to do that properly. Either way, we’ll keep you updated. Stay tuned!!!
