‘General Hospital’ Spoilers find that, as we may have noticed, Bobbie Spencer (Jacklyn Zeman) has been conspicuously absent from Port Charles since the birth of her Grandson, Wiley Cooper-Jones (Erik and Theo Olsen), she was not really present at the baby-naming ceremony and her relationship with Josslyn Jacks (Eden McCoy) seems to be practically non-existant, as they haven’t really spoken in a year and a half.
‘General Hospital’ Spoilers: What Happened To Bobbie Spencer (Jacklyn Zeman) On GH?
Recently the actress sat down to discuss why her character could be so absent from the lives of her family, she even wondered at one point if they were setting Bobbie’s character up to be a cold stranger to her family. But then, they shot the scene where she was diagnosed with diabetes, and it was the first time she had ever gotten to hold the child playing her Grandson. All it took for her to see that Bobbie loved her family and wanted to be a part of it was the declaration to little Wiley that she was going to stay alive for him.
‘General Hospital’ Spoilers: Maybe it was Brad’s fault
But let’s speculate for just a moment on why Bobbie Spencer wouldn’t have shown up to things. Sometimes, story dictates that characters are just not present, but, are present but are just not visible. Maybe someone ‘forgot’ to invite Bobbie to the party. She might be the Grandmother, but hey it could happen! I mean, wasn’t there a whole Friends episode dedicated to the fact that somebody forgot to invite Grandma to the baby shower? A similar situation could have happened.
Also, maybe Lucas Jones (Ryan Carnes) and Bobbie just weren’t on speaking terms that week, although I doubt it considering how much he loves his Mom. If I were to speculate about Bobbie not getting invited to her Grandson’s baby naming ceremony I would place the blame solely on Brad Cooper (Parry Shen), he seems to be the type to just conveniently forget to invite Bobbie, especially if anything about that visit was going to be inconvenient for him.
‘General Hospital’ Spoilers: “I can’t, I have to work.”
If we’re going to place the blame a little closer to home, we could simply say that life can get busy and hectic and sometimes prior engagements take priority. Maybe Bobbie Spencer was having a really full professional calendar (the only reason I could see her missing a family event) at the time when this particular event was occurring an absolutely could not get off. Since Bobbie is a nurse and the medical profession can be very, very demanding no matter what branch of it you’re in, I could see her not being able to get off of her shift to go to certain family events. Sometimes you’re simply covered up in work, and that’s something we can all relate to. However…
‘General Hospital’ Spoilers: Chronic illness comes into play
Since she now has the diabetes diagnosis it can be excused by one simple thing – illness. Diabetes has been known to cause fatigue, especially after eating. It’s unknown how long Bobbie Spencer had diabetes before she was diagnosed, but for argument’s sake, let’s say that the problem started within the last year to year and a half. The changes in blood sugar that she did not realize she was having would cause fatigue, and therefore cause her to miss, or maybe even completely forget about family events.
Not that she wanted to miss anything, but rather she was literally too tired to even show up. So, Jacklyn is right, Bobbie does indeed love her family and wants to be there for them, but let’s cut her a bit of slack because she’s got a chronic illness. Give her a break!
