This one isn’t for the children. In an interview today with Variety, the director of the new film ‘Winnie The Pooh: Blood and Honey’ teased new details about his take on the beloved children’s character. Director Rhys Frake-Waterfield told Variety, “No one is going to mistake this [for Disney]. When you see the cover for this and you see the trailers and the stills and all that, there’s no way anyone is going to think this is a child’s version of it.”

The lovable yellow bear and his sidekick Piglet will get a complete makeover and now be villains who go on a rampage after their beloved Christopher Robinson leaves them for college. Because of this, they’ve had to start fending for themselves and essentially become feral. Frake-Waterfield said, “So they’ve gone back to their animal roots. They’re no longer tame: They’re like a vicious bear and pig who want to go around and try and find prey.”

A few images came out Thursday, including one of Winnie the Pooh and Piglet creeping up behind a woman in a hot tub. The images have gone viral and the internet is going crazy. So much so that Frake-Waterfield said that getting the film finished and out to the public quickly is his number one priority.

While Disney still owns the exclusive use of Pooh, he will trade in his red shirt for the look of a lumberjack and Piglet will be dressed in all black to avoid copyright. However, the original stories by author A.A. Milne are now in the public domain, so the director relied on them for reference.

“We’ve tried to be extremely careful. We knew there was this line between that, and we knew what their copyright was and what they’ve done. So we did as much as we could to make sure [the film] was only based on the 1926 version of it.”
