Welcome to Plathville spoilers finds that it never mind their parents’ moral superiority about the world for just a minute. Can we just applaud these guys for having the most wholesome, sweet sibling relationship with each other? I have never, in my born days, seen a set of siblings who got along and supported each other like they do. When Ethan and Olivia came over and played with the younger siblings, it was so pure and sweet! It’s something we don’t see nowadays, even in the most supportive of families, it seems to be that one sibling or another is always jockeying for position or screaming and fighting with ther other one, but not the Plaths.

In the time that they were all together in the same house for that one gathering, they genuinely got along, smiled and laughed and just had the best energy with each other. They teased each other, yes, but it was a brother and sister teasing. There were no screaming meltdowns, nobody was crying for Mama at by the end of it. Nobody was upset or even remotely grumbling or complaining. A lot of times older siblings complain about when the younger siblings want to tag along and do things but not the Plaths. They really accept each other and that is so rare.

Even when their Mom and Dad were having the heated discussion with Ethan and Olivia and they were quoting the bible saying a house divided against each other cannot stand, Moriah spoke up and said “The others can choose to fall if they want, but that doesn’t mean we can’t stand together. We have strength.” referring to all the siblings. That is a truly beautiful bond!!! I’m verklempt, talk amongst yourselves!
Their bond is something unseen in today’s world, something beautiful and truly reminiscent of days gone by but in a good way. These guys are an illustration of what having a sibling can be like, and it’s beautiful. I’ll credit Mama and Papa Plath by saying that at least they did know what they were doing in raising their children to have a strong bond with one another.
So I’m just going to go out on a limb here and praise the Plath siblings for loving each other in the purest way possible and standing by and supporting one another when times get bad. Their parents seem to be kind of clueless during this time, but these kids are wise beyond their years. It would benefit the parents to sit down and truly listen to them and take their concerns to heart, I think it would help heal whatever ‘rift’ is in that family.
So why is it that Barry and Kim want to ruin this dynamic by excluding Ethan now that he’s married to Olivia? Olivia doesn’t ruin things! In fact she seems to fit right in with the family and the little girls seem to love her! They have a sweet, sisterly relationship with Olivia and it’s wonderful. Obviously next week’s episode has not aired yet, but in the previews Kim is shown to be telling Olivia that it’s not her place to ‘parent’ the other Plath children and I have one word for Kim, “Where?!” because I honestly don’t see it.
Never has Olivia (or Ethan) for that matter, tried to parent these kids. Moriah said it herself, they’ve never once told these kids what to believe or how to do things. The only time I could see either of them stepping in in that vein would be to prevent one of the Plath kids from getting hurt. Like when Olivia told Moriah on the bus not to take her shoes off because it was a bad idea. Even when they went shopping in the first episode, the only time Olivia ever stepped in was when she told Moriah she needed a smaller size in a dress. Would either of those times constitute as parenting? No. Olivia knows her role very well I would say.
However Kim doesn’t seem to know hers in her eldest son’s life anymore. There seems to be a lot of resentment that Ethan didn’t marry a woman just like her bubbling just under the surface. Obviously, Kim wanted another type of woman for Ethan and that makes me wonder just how on earth Ethan met Olivia in the first place and just how they came to be together. I guess like Hosanna he met Olivia at some sort of gospel music convention, which would stand to reason. I don’t think Ethan traveled much outside those circles growing up.
A source says that according to Ethan, Kim is rather standoffish and cold and hasn’t actually given Ethan a hug since he was around 12 years old. Now, Kim doesn’t really seem to give this impression at first but appearances can be deceiving. There are also sources that say that while Kim doesn’t allow her children to eat sugar or indulge in technology, Kim does these things herself. So I guess its one of those things that she views as an ‘adult activity’ which… is just kind of extreme but I guess that’s Kim’s belief.
If one does the math then one realizes that around the time of Ethan’s last hug is about the time that Kim’s other son, Joshua, passed away in a really tragic accident. She was doing farm work and accidentally ran right over the child with their car. He didn’t even survive being put in the ambulance, he was only 17 months old. I’m not even going to begin to speculate about Kim’s experience beyond her initial grief, she has said herself that for 7-8 months after the child died she just wasn’t emotionally present for the family.
Grief changes a person, losing a child changes a person, while we’re not going to speculate, it does make one wonder if the child’s death has anything to do with why the family’s lifestyle is so extreme. And maybe why Kim tends to be stand-offish and delegate some of the actual parenting duties to the other siblings. If Joshua had lived, would Kim be a different person? Arguably yes, but what kind of different person we will never know. She has said herself that this is the very reason why it hurts to have a fracture in the family… so why fracture it more by cutting out Ethan and Olivia? It looks like it we’ll just have to wait and see. Stay tuned!!!
