Meghan Markle’s brief and uneventful acting career was over before she married Prince Harry. The wannabe actress struggled to land decent parts.
Meghan Was Often Cast As “Eye Candy” Before “Suits”
According to the Duchess, she drove around in a “beat up, hand-me-down Ford Explorer Sport,” going from one audition to the next.
Often cast as the “eye candy” in shows, a stint as “Briefcase Girl” in “Deal or No Deal,” and playing the quintessential “hot girl” in an Ashton Kutcher film, she wasn’t exactly winning over audiences with her masterful portrayals.
After years of trying to “make it” in Hollywood, she found her only claim to fame: scoring the plum role as pretty paralegal Rachel Zane in “Suits” in 2010.
Meghan didn’t hesitate to pack up and move to Toronto. She made a living off that show, receiving $50,000 per episode.
The “Suits” actress met Prince Harry in 2016; the rest was history. Royal biographer Tom Bower claimed in his book, “Revenge: Meghan, Harry and the War Between the Windsors,” that “writer Aaron Korsh planned to write her out in 2017.
Meghan was set to become a royal family member as her relationship with Harry turned serious, cementing her impending exit.
Rachel Zane would marry Mike Ross (Patrick J. Adams) on the show and leave her cushy New York firm.
After Suits, Meghan’s career hit a massive roadblock. Bower wrote in his book,
“No film producer was offering her any major roles, and no serious Hollywood director spoke about featuring Meghan in his movie or TV series. Just as she feared, her acting career was stymied. Her income in 2017 would plummet.”
Meghan Markle’s Final Episode Was Filmed One Month Before Marrying Prince Harry
Meghan played some bit roles and played in a Hallmark movie and a couple of low-budget films. The Queen had encouraged Meghan to continue her acting career even after officially becoming a royal family member.
However, Meghan’s acting life was already over. Not to mention, Meghan was a D-list actress who lacked experience and talent.
Meghan also had to shut down her blog, “The Tig,” because it wasn’t appropriate for a royal family member.
The Suits head writer admitted that Meghan’s budding romance with Prince Harry forced him to write her out of the show.
The royals set rules and guidelines for Meghan while on Suits, and the writers found it difficult to work around it.
Harry talked about this in his tell-all memoir, “Spare.”
He explained,
“The show’s writers were frustrated because they were often advised by the palace comms team to change lines of dialogue, what her character would do, how she would act.”
Meghan’s final episode aired in April 2018, a month before she and Harry tied the knot. In her final episode, Rachel married Mike and moved to Seatle to establish her own law firm.
Of her once-in-a-lifetime success on Suits, Meghan exclaimed,
“I’ve been working on my show for seven years. We were so fortunate to have that longevity, and I feel like I’ve checked that box and am very proud of the work I’ve done there.”
