Vice President Kamala Harris is drawing some heat after tweeting out “Enjoy the long weekend” on Saturday. The thing is, it’s a long weekend because Memorial Day takes place on Monday.
This has sparked a bit of outrage as some believe she purposefully ignored the fact that it’s Memorial Day and that she doesn’t support the troops. While on the other side of things, people are saying that it was a simple tweet telling Americans to enjoy themselves with the day off.
Reactions to the tweet (at least in the comments) have been largely negative and sarcastic. One person told the Vice President,
“I’ve never been able to “enjoy” Memorial Day. It became that much harder when I lost my son fighting for this country. Thanks anyway Madam Vice President.”

On Friday, the White House issued a proclamation marking Memorial Day, signed by President Biden.
“Our Nation will never forget the courage and patriotism demonstrated by the countless women and men who laid down their lives so that we may continue to pursue a more perfect Union and to protect the unalienable rights Americans hold dear,” it read in part.
I think two things can be true at once. While I don’t think it was purposely done to insult veterans who gave their life for this country, she is the Vice President now, and she should know she’d be held to a higher standard and under a larger microscope. I do believe that she should have included something about Memorial Day in her tweet, and thanked those who gave their life for us. At the same time, I don’t think calling her names and posting terrible things is going to make it better.
The strangest thing to me was that she uploaded a photo of herself looking away from the camera with the tweet. It seemed odd for some reason.
It’ll be interesting to see if she follows it up with anything or has any comments about the tweet. In the meantime, let’s remember the men and women who gave their lives for our country this Monday.

Vice President Kamala Harris has tweeted out the following,
“Throughout our history our service men and women have risked everything to defend our freedoms and our country. As we prepare to honor them on Memorial Day, we remember their service and their sacrifice.”
The drama is continuing though with some calling her out and the others continuing to defend her.
