A republican candidate who compared the 2020 election to telling his daughters ‘if rape is inevitable, you should just lay back and enjoy it’, has lost his Michigan special election for a state seat that has NEVER been won by a Democrat.
Carol Glanville defeated Robert “RJ” Regan by 11 points Tuesday in a Kent County District that her Republican predecessor carried by a whopping 26 points just two years ago. Regan has been denounced by GOP leaders after his upset victory and has been panned for anti-Semitic remarks as well as calling Russia’s invasion into Ukraine a ‘fake war’.
Michigan Republican Robert Regan Loses Seat After Telling His Daughters “If R*** Is Inevitable” To Just “Lay Back And Enjoy It”
In March during a Facebook livestream, Regan responded to GOP strategist Amber Harris saying it was too late to overturn Donald Trump’s 2020 loss, which is true, however it was his comparison that has gotten him blacklisted. Regan compared it to telling his daughters, “Well if rape is inevitable, you should just lie back and enjoy it. That’s not how we roll. That’s not how I won this election. We go right at it.”
Regan has said that he regrets the analogy but claimed it was taken out of context, saying the “sometimes, my words aren’t as smooth and polished as the politicians… because I’m not a politician.”
He has also come out to say that he believes the GOP will win back the seat in November.
There’s no doubt that his comments played into his loss and there may not be any coming back from it for him. While his party may indeed win the seat back, he will not be a part of it.
