Then, the Newmans mentioned that Matt is now in prison. We are kind of hoping that doesn’t last. Howarth is a phenomenal actor, and I would personally watch him read the phone book.
However, if Y&R intends to end Matt’s story with him going to prison, it doesn’t do Howarth justice. Howarth took a sh*t role as Josh Griffith lazily decided to resurrect an old villain from the 90’s, rather than do the actual work of writing Roger a viable character with rooting value.

That said, Howarth has been masterful at playing this villain, regardless. He’s taken a lame character from the past and injected him with personality and humor.
I am convinced that Howarth ad-libs. That’s the only way Matt has any character at all. Roger has done it before, countless times, with his first huge role as rapist, Todd Manning, on One Life to Live.
He also did a wonderful job of transforming reformed serial killer Franco Baldwin on General Hospital. All of this is why Y&R has made a huge mistake.
Howarth is a talented, seasoned pro, and if you give him any material, he’ll nail it. However, Matt and his storyline have now seemingly disappeared.
Personally, I would love to see more of Howarth. He’s literally the only thing about his storyline that remotely works.
‘The Young and the Restless’ Spoilers: Nick Has Turned to Drugs
Additionally, having Howarth in only a short-term role on Y&R is a total waste. Y&R is lucky to have him. Griffith himself insisted during an interview with TV Insider that
“Matt will make plenty of new enemies and create way more issues with the Newman family.
Griffith told the outlet,
“And just when we think he’s out of the picture, we find out he’s not, and we’re heading towards a huge showdown that will incorporate a lot of aspects of the past in a very dramatic way.”

I have to wonder exactly what that means. Fans also know that Nick Newman (Joshua Morrow) is headed towards a deeply dangerous pain pill addiction.
He was involved in a serious car accident caused by Matt and ended up in the hospital, requiring surgery on his leg.
If Nick truly does give in to his inner demons and becomes a major drug addict, he may even get desperate enough to turn to his arch nemesis, Matt, to get his fix.
It would be interesting to have Roger Howarth be a part of the story. Hopefully, Howarth hasn’t finished his arc yet, and we’ll see more of him soon to come.
