The CW ‘Riverdale’ spoilers finds that actress Vanessa Morgan came out the other day criticizing the Riverdale writers for their continual bad characterization of black characters on the show. And she was completely right to call them out because can we just count how many black characters have been written out or shoved to the side in favor of the white leads on that show? Yes I get it, the white leads are the main characters but at least give your side characters some interesting side stories! So far, nothing doing on that front and to be honest the only time I’ve ever seen Toni really shine was in the romantic rescue of her white lead girlfriend Cheryl Blossom (Madeline Pesch). Her castmates joined in, and their outrage was not in vain because the creator himself responded!
Roberto Aguirre Secasa released a statement, and in it, he thankfully apologized about the lack of racial equality on the set. “We hear Vanessa.” he began. “She’s right. And we make the same promise to you that we did to her. We will do better to honor her and the character she plays. As well as all actors and characters of color. Change is happening and will continue to happen. Riverdale will get bigger, not smaller. Riverdale will be part of the movement, not outside it.” the sentiment behind these words is truly appreciated and we can only hope that he holds true to his promise.

The CW ‘Riverdale’ Spoilers: Vanessa Morgan’s Criticism Sparks Action!
I for one would like to see a good story featuring Toni, that doesn’t revolve around crazy Cheryl for once. I would like to see her fleshed out and become an actual whole human being outside of just being Cheryl Blossom’s girlfriend or a member of the serpent gang. Jughead (Cole Sprouse) was a member of the serpents too but he also had a life and a family outside of it and, at least by Riverdale terms was a pretty complex guy. They didn’t focus on just his thug and gang member sides. (Although honestly if they had focused a little more on that maybe the show would have been a little more interesting I digress.)
Does this mean the writing will get better as a whole, though? Can we expect a return to season 1 greatness or is this going to be the same dumpster fire that we’ve been watching only now with more diversity? I hope that RAS truly has some great plans in mind for the show because some of us would like to see the show return to its former glory days and be able to sit through an episode without cringing. Up for the challenge, RAS? Vanessa’s called you out, and I’m with her! Let’s do this! Stay tuned!!!
