Soap stars have been involved in a lot of charity work, especially in the last year and a half. We’ve seen a few different virtual events designed to help people suffering from hunger and other issues.
This time, they’re helping a kid-centric cause. And they’re laying the gauntlet down of their TV movie counterparts. Let’s see what’s going on.
Soap stars reach out
First, these soap stars are coming together thanks to one of their own. Jen Lilley, who played Theresa Donovan on ‘Days of Our Lives‘, as well as subbing as Maxie Jones on ‘General Hospital’, put out a call.
She and her fellow Hallmark movie stars were already involved in a campaign to help kids. Christmas in July is a campaign that will provide school supplies to kids in foster care, as well as those who might be at risk for entering the foster care system.
We love those Christmas in July movies, and we love knowing there’s a good cause behind them. Lilley decided to take things up a notch this year. And that led to an awesome video battle online.
Hallmark stars and soap stars call to action
First, there is one who can count himself on both the Hallmark and Soap side of this situation. Cameron Mathison is one of the actors who’s found a home on the Hallmark Channel.
But he’ll also soon be coming to GH. We’re not sure what character he’ll play, but for now? He’s firmly on the “Hallmark Hunk” side of things.
In a video released online, Hallmark actors, including Paul Campbell, Chris Russell, Mathison, and more, the actors traded off lines as they encouraged fans to get involved because it’s “hot girl summer” and helping kids in foster care is “hot.” They also teased lots of fun and prizes involved in the campaign. But this started a bit of a battle.
Soap stars fire back
After Lilley got her soap friends involved, the group did a video of their own. Eric Martsolf (Brady Black, Days of Our Lives) started off the video with a challenge. They called out the “Hallmark Hunks” and said they want to help kids, too.
The others, including DOOL’s Billy Flynn (Chad DiMera), Mike Manning (Charlie Dale), Galen Gerring (Rafe Hernandez), Lamon Archey (Eli Grant) and more, traded lines in a similar pitch. We have to say, the Soap Stars went the extra mile in spicing up their clip.
However, it seems the Hallmark guys win this battle for now. We’ll see how the numbers change, as the Hallmark video came out weeks before. But so far, they’re edging out the soap stars by almost 40K views. Here’s hoping this all translates to a lot of backpacks for kids this year.
