Anyone who was alive in 2016 knows the name Sherri Papini. She was the young mother of 2 who went missing for 3 weeks but was miraculously returned by her captors, she was allegedly beaten and “branded” and left on a road 150 miles from her home.
We all expected that sooner or later she would come forward and do a tell-all interview or write a book or something about what she endured, but the fact of the matter is after she was returned to her family… she just kind of went radio silent. We understood at first, after all it was a traumatic event and people need to process things at their own pace.
Sherri Papini Accused Of Stealing Over $30K From Victim’s Aid Fund
But years passed, and we didn’t hear anything more about the case… until now, that is. Now, it seems that Sherri Papini has been arrested for stealing over $30K in aid from the California Victim’s Aid fund because as it turns out, she made the entire 22 day ordeal up.
As it turns out, Papini was actually at an ex-boyfriend’s house the entire time, she had him pick her up and they drove 600 miles away to his house in Costa Mesa, California. After 3 weeks, Papini informed him that she was ready to go back home, so she had him drop her off on a road 150 miles from her home and that is how she was found.
As for her injuries? She intentionally injured herself by hitting her head on the bathtub. The brand? That was done upon request by her ex-boyfriend who made the purchase of the wood-burning tool from a craft store, ironically, the craft store was Hobby Lobby. (I guess he got a good deal.)
So far, said boyfriend has not been charged with any crime, nor has he been named, but we’ll keep an eye on any developments. Sherri Papini herself was arrested in front of her children, raising the ire of the rest of her family, who say that Sherri would have complied and gone down to the police department had she been asked.
Okay, but considering how she lied before there was no indication that she wasn’t going to be a flight risk to law enforcement again, so as sad as it is that she got arrested in front of her children, one can definitely see the officer’s line of logic there.
Also, Papini accused two Hispanic women of abducting her when said ‘Hispanic women’ didn’t even exist, so, a lot of Hispanic women in that area probably got unfairly profiled by officers of the law for a while due to this woman’s false claims. Unfair profiling is how cases like Emmett Till happen, folks, it’s 2022. Let’s let that end.
It would seem that Sherri also has a history of pulling things like this. Her former husband, the husband that she had before Keith Papini, said that he only married her to help her qualify for medical insurance and that their marriage dissolved shortly thereafter around 2006.
All other former boyfriends claim that Papini had a tendency to be really attention-hungry and would make up claims of “abuse” against them. Investigators said that a director at a Friday Night Live youth program that Papini worked at said that she was very good at “creating different realities for people” and would make sure that people only saw what she wanted them to see. There is also the fact that Pappini ran away as a teenager and accused her parents of abuse.
The 22 day long search cost the city over $150,000 and the police department has been unfairly criticized in how they handled the case. They did say that it took a number of man-hours and that a lot of the officers initially involved in the case got promoted or transferred, and then COVID happened and they experienced delays due to that.
According to the department head, “they took a lot of lumps.” So.. is it any wonder that they thought they would have to sneak up on this woman to arrest her? The logic is making more and more sense here. We at DSD will keep an eye on this case. Stay tuned!!!
