With all of the controversial moments that Sarah Ferguson had both before and after her marriage to Prince Andrew, you’d think that she would become persona non grata at Buckingham Palace by now. But that hasn’t been the case.

In fact, Sarah is often seen with her ex-husband Prince Andrew during public events and still lives with him at the Royal Lodge on the grounds of Windsor. And while it seems like Sarah has a rather comfortable relationship with the Duke of York, she recently had surprising things to say about her ex mother-in-law Queen Elizabeth, too. Here’s what you need to know.

During the chat to promote her latest Mills & Boon debut romance novel, Her Heart For A Compass Fergie opened up about her relationship with the Queen and even said that she’s someone who is “modern, flexible, and forgiving.”

If that weren’t enough, Fergie even compared her relationship to the Queen to that of her own late mother, Susan Barrantes.

She said: “I think to myself that honestly, my mother-in-law has been more of a mother to me than my mother.”

Just last month royal expert and author Camila Tominey noted Queen Elizabeth’s perception of Sarah Feguson in a piece that she wrote for The Telegraph.

SHe said, “Palace insiders say the 95-year-old monarch has always admired the way the Duchess has not only been ‘such a good mother’ to Beatrice and Eugenie, but also crucially, such a stalwart support of her ‘favourite’ son. In June 2019, the Queen even invited her former daughter-in-law to join the family for the penultimate day of Royal Ascot.”
