Now this is something that the British Royal Family certainly doesn’t want to talk about. Queen Elizabeth’s cousin Simon Bowes-Lyon leaves prison five months early into his sexual assault sentence. Bowes-Lyon, who is the current Earl of Strathmore and Kinghorne, was sentenced to ten months after being convicted of sexual assault. Here’s what you need to know.
Bowes- Lyon pleaded guilty in January to the Feb. 2020 attack on a 26-year-old woman. He repeatedly assaulted the victim and tried to pull off her nightdress during the 20-minute attack. The court heard how the victim fled the castle the morning after the attack last year and went home to report the matter to the police.
Queen Elizabeth’s Cousin Simon Bowes-Lyon Released From Prison After Five Months
The Earl – who is the Queen’s first cousin twice removed – has been placed on the sex offenders register. According to the BBC, his victim still suffers nightmares from the 20-minute attack, in which the Earl came into her room uninvited. He then proceeded to grope her while trying to take her clothes off.
Sheriff Alastair Carmichael of the Dundee Sheriff Court handed down the sentence. The Sheriff initially concluded that the Earl’s home was suitable for house arrest under the Restriction of Liberty Order, but ultimately decided that the sentence would be served in prison.
Bowes-Lyon was also placed in a sex offenders register back in January. So far Buckingham Palace has not made any comments about the matter.
