Not only is he the future king of England, but apparently he’s also one of the biggest heroes in the UK, too. Of course we are talking about Prince William, as there are new reports that say the Duke of Cambridge intervened to help an Afghan officer’s family get out of Kabul amid the Taliban takeover in Afghanistan. Here’s what you need to know.

According to reports, William helped an Afghan National Army officer – who he had attended with at the Royal Military Academy Sandhurst in the UK together – escape Kabul and flee to the UK. The officer and his family, including women and children, were all eligible to be evacuated by UK troops because he’d assisted British troops on the ground in Afghanistan throughout the war.

The Telegraph states that the father-of-three heard about the former cadet’s situation and asked his equerry, Naval officer Rob Dixon, to make some calls on his behalf. Lieutenant Commander Dixon, who began to work with the Duke last year, successfully contacted the relevant personnel and officer and he was able to leave the country alongside a family group of more than 10.

Although he’s stepped down from his military career to be a full-time professional royal, the Duke of Cambridge has often spoken fondly of his time in the armed forces. The Duke of Cambridge undertook the 44-week commissioning course at the elite Royal Military Academy at Sandhurst. His career then took him to the Household Cavalry, the Royal Air Force, the Royal Navy, and later he trained to be a search and rescue pilot.

So far Buckingham Palace has not made any comments about the matter.
