Prince William and Kate Middleton pushed for Prince Andrew to be exiled. Specific members of the royal family were very vocal and orchestrated his epic fall from grace.
Prince William Told The King, “A Clean Break With Andrew Is The Only Way Forward.”
Kate and William have also made it clear that they want him kicked out of Windsor. The heir to the throne had expressed to the King that
“A clean break from Andrew was the only way the royal family could move forward.”
The Prince and Princess of Wales felt that Windsor would be “forever tainted” if Andrew were to live there. Apparently, Andrew made some rude remarks about Kate, which made William furious.
William was also livid that Andrew and his ex-wife, Sarah Ferguson, showed up at the Duchess of Kent’s funeral in September.
Prince William felt that the King wasn’t taking the hard line against Andrew that he should. William strongly believes that Andrew and Sarah’s persistent scandals have damaged the monarchy’s reputation and undermined the good work of the other members of the royal family.
According to the Daily Mail, King Charles was also,
“gravely concerned that the future of the monarchy was at stake unless he acted decisively to banish his beleaguered brother.”
Buckingham Palace was cautious about walking “a legal and constitutional tightrope” to ensure that removing Andrew’s titles and evicting him from his home at Royal Lodge didn’t backfire.
While William was insistent that serious moves needed to be made, he was also concerned about the state of his uncle’s mental health in the wake of his exile from the monarchy.
Prince Edward and Princess Anne were also said to be worried. However, it was Queen Camilla who actually wanted to take a strong public stand for the victims and survivors of sexual abuse, including the late Virginia Giuffre.
King Charles Legally Stripped Andrew Of His Titles By Using The Royal Prerogative
Additionally, Andrew’s profile on the royal family website was removed, and a message stated that he would no longer use his titles and that his honors and privileges were revoked.
Finally, the King made legal moves to strip him of his former title as the Duke of York. His Majesty has initiated the formal process by using royal prerogative to remove Andrew’s titles. His official name has now changed to Andrew Mountbatten Windsor.
Charles is making it clear that Andrew does not represent the institution of the monarchy. Andrew will move to a property in Sandringham, where Charles can financially support his brother.
His mother, Queen Elizabeth II, wouldn’t have necessarily wanted him to throw his brother out into the street. Thankfully, the Queen is no longer alive to witness this.
Charles’s financial support for his brother also ensures that Andrew is no longer wasting taxpayer money on his stay at Royal Lodge.
Andrew is now also prohibited from riding any of the royal family’s horses in public. Being seen publicly would be seen as an embarrassment.
A former aide said of Andrew,
“The irony that the only titles someone as obsessed with status and standing has left are ‘Randy Andy’ and ‘Air Miles Andrew’ is lost on no one.”
He added,
“Andrew will only be remembered as the most disgraced royal of his generation.”
