Prince Harry whined he was “singled out for inferior treatment” and “forced to step back” from royal life as he challenged a High Court ruling over security concerns.
The Duke of Sussex claimed he and his wife, Meghan Markle, were forced to step back from their royal duties. In January 2020, they left the UK for greener pastures when they realized the Firm wasn’t protecting them.
Harry Filed An Appeal After His Case Was Dismissed
Harry filed an appeal after his legal case against the Home Office was dismissed. The Executive Committee for the Protection of Royalty and Public Figures (RAVEC) decided to strip him of his security in February 2020.
He feels he and his family are entitled to high-level protection despite no longer being a working royal. His case has cost the British taxpayer 500,000 pounds so far.
Harry claims bringing his wife and children to the UK is too risky. Prior to his appearance at the Royal Courts of Justice in London earlier today, he refused to answer questions about his father, King Charles.
Harry and Charles apparently didn’t see each other before the monarch left for Italy for his four-day state visit, despite being in close proximity hours beforehand.
Harry and Meghan had wanted to continue their work for the Queen as privately funded citizens. Harry’s lawyer said, “This appeal concerns the most fundamental right: to safety and security of person.”
She said, “The appellant (the Duke of Sussex) does not accept that bespoke means better. In fact, in his position, it means he has been singled out for different, inferior treatment.”
Harry believes he is entitled to armed bodyguards, paid for by the British taxpayer when he visits the UK with his family. He is battling the High Court’s decision to limit his security.
Harry has said on several occasions that his children, Prince Archie and Princess Lilibet, cannot feel “at home” or “safe in the UK” unless his police protection is restored.
The British Government Refused Harry’s Offer To Buy His Own Security For When He Returns To The UK
He offered to pay for security himself, but the British Government determined that it was not appropriate for the wealthy and famous to “buy” protective security as it would reduce the availability of trained officers who worked to serve the people.
Prince Harry may be preventing the King from seeing his grandchildren unless his father can reverse the decision of the High Court to downgrade his security.
However, Charles has no sway over this ruling. The King disapproves of Harry’s decision to challenge the Home Office over the decision.
The Home Secretary is calling for Harry to pay all legal costs for both sides if he loses, which would cost him over a million dollars.
Meanwhile, Harry curiously turned down an invitation to the wedding of one of his “band of brothers” despite already having prepared for a visit to the UK. A source close to the Duke of Sussex claimed Harry couldn’t attend the ceremony due to lack of security.
The UK government’s senior barrister, Sir James, opposed Harry’s appeal. He reminded the court that Harry’s protection was “adjusted,” not “removed.” Sir James said, “The Home Secretary recognizes the duke disagrees vehemently with the decision. He is entitled to hold and express those views. But they are legally irrelevant.”
