Prince Harry is reportedly growing increasingly frustrated with the New York Police Department’s handling of the May 2023 “near-fatal” paparazzi chase involving himself and Meghan Markle.
According to the Daily Mail, a member of Harry’s security team has sent letters to high-ranking NYPD officials expressing the Duke’s suspicion of a potential cover-up. These concerns stem from the NYPD’s initial downplaying of the incident and the subsequent lack of arrests despite assurances that sufficient evidence existed to proceed.

The Sussexes have consistently maintained that they were subjected to a “relentless pursuit” by paparazzi, claiming “multiple near collisions” with other vehicles and pedestrians. However, the NYPD initially downplayed the incident, stating there were “no reported collisions, summonses, injuries, or arrests.”
Despite initial reassurances from NYPD’s top intelligence officer, John Hart, that sufficient evidence existed for arrests, no charges have been filed. This lack of action has fueled Harry’s suspicions, prompting him to seek a formal explanation from the NYPD and consider filing a complaint with the Manhattan District Attorney’s Office.
Furthermore, Harry has reportedly contacted California Governor Gavin Newsom to escalate his concerns and seek his assistance in pursuing the matter with the Manhattan District Attorney’s Office.
In response to these concerns, the NYPD has reportedly stated that they will continue to provide security coverage for the Sussexes during future visits to New York City.
This incident highlights the ongoing tension between the Sussexes and law enforcement agencies in both the UK and the US. The couple has repeatedly raised concerns about their personal security, citing threats and harassment from the media and the public.
