Olivia Jade Giannulli has finally broken her silence about the college admissions scandal that landed both of her parents, Lori Loughlin and Massimo Giannulli, in jail. In an interview with Jada Pinkett Smith, Willow Smith, and Adrienne Banfield-Norris on Red Table Talk, the former YouTuber says that she feels both embarrassed and ashamed over what had happened.
Both she and her sister Isabella were admitted into the University of Southern California as rowing recruits despite the fact that they’ve never rowed in their lives.

“I felt so ashamed and embarrassed … although I didn’t really 100 percent understand what had just happened because there was a lot that, when I was applying, I was not fully aware of what was going on,” she told co-hosts Jada Pinkett Smith, Willow Smith and Adrienne Banfield-Norris. “When I got home [from spring break] I just felt so ashamed.”

“I shouldn’t have been there in the first place, clearly,” she said.
Olivia also says she understands that she doesn’t deserve pity but at the same time wants a chance to own her mistakes publicly.
“A huge part of having privilege is not knowing you have privilege, so when it was happening it didn’t feel wrong,” she said. “It didn’t feel like, ‘That’s not fair. A lot of people don’t have that.’ … I was in my own little bubble. Focusing on my comfortable world.”
And even tough Olivia admits that she might not have deserved a spot at USC, she says that she still had a very good work ethic in high school.
“I worked my ass off in high school,” Olivia said. “I wasn’t slacking in high school. I don’t want to discredit myself … I put a lot of trust into a person who claimed their profession was college counseling.”
Lori, meanwhile, is almost halfway through her two-month prison sentence for her role in the college admissions scandal. She is currently serving her time at the Federal Correctional Institution in Dublin, Calif. and is expected to be released before Christmas.
She and her husband Massimo Gianulli were caught in a massive college bribe scandal in which the couple paid a heap of money to get their daughters admitted into the University of Southern California. Lori has been sentenced to two months in prison and Giannulli sentenced to five months in prison, subject to the court’s approval.
