Despite a report to the contrary, Jerry Lee Lewis is still a thriving rock and roll legend. The information that Lewis passed away on Wednesday at his Memphis home was incorrectly first reported by TMZ. The rumors probably started because the adored musician had recently struggled with health issues.
“He’s alive. TMZ reported erroneously off of a bulls–t anonymous tip,” Jerry’s rep said on Wednesday. Lewis appeared flimsy and ill in a Facebook post from his official profile.
“On Sunday, Jerry Lee Lewis was finally inducted into the Country Music Hall of Fame. The legendary Jerry Lee was too ill with the flu to attend the ceremony. His longtime dear friend Kris Kristofferson accepted in his honor from Hank Williams Jr. and Kris and his wife Lisa were nice enough to drive down to Memphis and present it to Jerry Lee in person.”

With the success of “Whole Lotta Shakin’ Goin’ On” in 1957, Lee made his musical debut. He became well-known for his piano playing and frequently performed with other rock stars like Johnny Cash and Elvis Presley. Lewis then said in a message to his fans, “It is with heartfelt sadness and disappointment that I write to you today from my sick bed, rather than be able to share my thoughts in person.”
TMZ has released a post apologizing for the error, “We’re told the rock ‘n’ roll legend is alive, living in Memphis. Earlier today we were told by someone claiming to be Lewis’ rep that he had passed. That turned out not to be the case. TMZ regrets the error.”
