Mike “Beeple” Winkelmann is an amazing digital artist that uploads one piece of work every single day of his life. He’s been doing it for years at this point and when asked by Joe Rogan how much longer he’s going to do it he responded, “probably the rest of my life. I have to see it through at this point.”

However, perhaps the most notable part of the podcast came when Beeple gifted Rogan an Elon Musk NFT in the middle of the podcast. Now, we’re going to get into a weird conversation about what NFT’s are. An NFT is a cryptographic record of ownership for a unique item that is encoded into a blockchain. It records who owns something, but it’s not the item itself.

So, it’s essentially a land deed. The deed is not the land itself but shows ownership of the land. However, all of this exists in the blockchain.

Rogan opened it during the podcast and they took the time to hook it up and everything. The NFT featured a buff Elon Musk. It lit up incredibly brightly and certainly called attention to it, however, Rogan honestly didn’t seem that interested and it showed.

Viewers in the comments pointed out how disinterested he seemed, “Joe is physically incapable of pretending to like something he doesn’t.”, “Joe is like “oh great now I gotta be responsible for this water bottle” and “I love how joe can’t fake it when he’s just not interested in something.”

It is an odd gift, and to do the whole unwrapping and hooking it up during the podcast was a bit bizarre, but so is Beeple, so it makes sense.

What do you think? Do you understand NFT’s anymore now and what do you think of Beeples ‘gift’? Let us know in the comments below.
